I'm about to have my front door replaced and want to take the opportunity to install a connected lock. I ideally prefer Z-wave or Zigbee because I don't like to overload my wifi.
Our door installer only wants to install Schlage or Weiser locks. So I found these two models, do you have any preferences or recommendations on the subject? I currently have a C7 hub.
I have two of the Schlage, same model different style. They seem well made and work well. Has ben working with HE not problem. Compared to the Yale I also have it is a little slow and louder when operating.
I currently have four Schlage BZ469ZP units in service on a Hubitat C8-Pro. I've previously had a BZ469ZP on a Hubitat C7 and before that another on a Hubitat C5. All have worked flawlessly including PIN/access management.
If you do experience issues, the first debug step is to replace the lock's batteries.
The schlages, while many like them, have been removed from the official list of compatible devices. I had problems with them. Got a Zigbee Yale and it's been great, except when I let the batteries die. Didn't know Weiser make z-wave locks
Mainly because of the older firmware (anything below 7.10) was a crap shoot and Schlage refused to provide updates even though the locks are capable of OTA. The fe599's won't even pair with 700/800 series chips because the firmware is so bad (they're series 300 chips). Anything 7.10 and up though pairs and works just fine. Schlage sucks at updating their stuff even though I like their stuff. I don't know how kwikset is though for update service though.
I detest the large box on the inside of the door for most smart locks. For that reason I went with the Level locks and really like them. I have them tied to HomeKit. Unfortunately Level was just bought by another company. Hopefully it won't impact the locks.
Of course that doesn't meet with the requirements of the original post. Another option you might consider is to have them install an inexpensive lock and then change it out to what you want.
