I recently had a Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge Pro decide it was time for an early retirement—it had no power and wouldn’t turn back on. Lutron kindly sent me a new bridge and power supply, suspecting the old power supply was the culprit. But alas, the new power supply didn’t revive the old bridge, so it looks like I’ll be welcoming a new bridge into the family.
I have about 10 dimmers that I’ll need to introduce to the new bridge, then connect it to Hubitat, and I’m wondering about the best approach to reconnect everything to my Hubitat C7 hub. Specifically:
Should I bid farewell to all the dimmers from the Devices section and the Lutron app in Hubitat and start fresh and if so, what steps should I take?
Or is there a way to link the new bridge to my Hubitat without giving each dimmer the boot and re-adding them?
Any advice or best practices would be greatly appreciated!
The issue is the Lutron device id number for each device. These are set when you add a device to the SmartBridge. Theoretically, the devices will have the same numbers as before if you add them to the new SmartBridge in the same order you did before. However, you can get them to work even without that:
The entries you make in the Lutron Integration app establish the relationship between those Lutron device id numbers, and the names of those devices in Hubitat (the hub doesn't know or care about the names they have in the Lutron system). You should be able to go through those settings for the Lutron Integration app, and adjust the device names and/or device labels as needed so that the new Lutron device id numbers have the right names.
The Device Name, 103, is the Lutron system device id number, and this device is called "B Closet" in my hub. If this device were added to a new Lutron system that assigned some number other than 103, I could just change that Device Name to match. You should make sure that the settings for the Lutron Integration app have all of the new Lutron device id numbers and associated device names.
I wish I had a photographic memory to recall the exact order I added them, but sadly, my memory is more like a fuzzy Polaroid.
So, just to clarify—if I get the names and labels right, will webCoRE think they're the same old devices, or will it see them as new and fancy impostors?
Actually, your current Lutron Integration app settings can show you the sequence, as Lutron assigns device id numbers starting with 5 (I think... I may be confusing how RA2 does it). You just add them in that numerical order, lowest to highest. Then you can clean up the stragglers as described above.
Yes, as long as you don't remove those devices, the apps won't know what happened behind their backs.
As I'm revisiting my replacement project and reviewing the previous setup in Hubitat, I've noticed a few discrepancies with the device ID numbers that I'd like some guidance on.
For instance, the old IDs were: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, whereas the new IDs are: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15.
While ID 8 remains consistent, ID 12 for example and others now corresponds to a different device. Additionally, IDs 10 and 11 are new, which has me concerned about potential mismatches in Alexa and WebCoRE as to what device they would be associated with, both old and new. How can I resolve these mismatches to ensure everything functions correctly in both Alexa and WebCoRE?
I appreciate your help with this and hope my explanation is clear. Thank you!
I think he needs to edit the DNIs as re-adding, even if the same order, didn't result in the same integration IDs. I don't remember if there are any issues or implications of doing so.
