Basic rules, some motion sensors are not turning lights off

Hi guys. I have several Basic Rules using motion sensors to turn a light on, then wait, then turn it off. Several of them stopped turning the lights OFF. They still work fine turning the lights ON.

C-7 hub, fully updated firmware. Rebooted several times over the past week, but the problem is still happening.

Here's an example of one of the motion sensor rules. Note that there are no restrictions set on it.

In the app log, it says "evt: Motion Kitchen Pantry motion stayed inactive, wait over --> restricted"

What should my next step be? How should I go about troubleshooting this? Thanks!

You appear to be running into the Basic Rule bug introduced around 2.3.9.141, which will be fixed in the next hotfix (currently in beta). In the meantime, you can either:

  1. Revert to a platform version prior to 2.3.9.141 or so using the Diagnostic Tool;
  2. See if changing the "Restrict only the trigger..." option in this Basic Rule to that option (as opposed to trigger and pending events) fixes it for you, if applicable; or
  3. Re-create this automation in another app, at least for now, or wait for the next hotfix.

Awesomesauce. Thanks so much for the info! :facepunch:
I'll try reverting. I knew there's a reason I keep backups religiously. Here's my moment to shine.

Note that restoring a "regular" hub/database backup does not affect the hub platform version; you need to use the Diagnostic Tool, as above, for that.

Ah, roger that. OK, I'm gonna read the Diagnostic Tool page thrice, then give it a shot.

OK, I just reverted back to 2.3.8.140. Hub seems to be running stable. I was going to go walk around and test out some of the motion sensors. But then I saw this little notification that 2.3.9.147 is available now.

In the release notes under "Bug Fixes," it says:

  • Basic Rule: Fixed issue with Restrictions.

Do you know if that fix is for this issue we're talking about? Should I try updating to 2.3.9.147?

Yes, 2.3.9.147 fixed the problem.

did it solve the not turning off problem?

This would fix it in the above case. Why don't you upgrade and see if it works for you, then if it doesn't, provide Logs from the the app to show what's going on. But it sounds like it might have been the problem for you, too.

Woohoo! I'm running 2.3.9.147 now and the problem is fixed. All motion sensing lights are correctly turning off after the wait time. :facepunch:
