Hi Hubitat Community,
Not sure what I am doing wrong but I am experiencing some pretty persistent troubles with my Bali layered shades and HE. The shades (from all I know) are made by Spring Window Fashion and use Somfy Z-wave hardware. I have reset the blinds by holding the programming button for 7 seconds (both in the fully open and closed position) and then tried to run a Z-Wave inclusion - but nothing worked. I tried inclusion for Generic Z-Wave shades, Generic Z Wave dimmer, Graber shades .... nothing worked. Sometimes I detect a device but it never fully integrates. It always remains on "device with id 07 or 06 detected - initializing" and nothing after that. I am beginning to think either the shades are not compatible with my HE or something else is wrong. I even got Ethernet cables that are pretty long to bring the HE closer but that hasn't helped either. I upgraded the platform software to 2.3 and unplugged everything for half a day and still no luck. I am about to give up if there is nothing else I am forgetting. Not using the remote at all. Thanks, looking forward to some help PLEASE
Looking at the Compatible Devices list, I don't see Bali listed or the Somfy listed except for a 2 button device. I did see under generic devices that there is a Generic Z-Wave Shade. Can you switch to that when it does detect?
I actually got it to detect last night but it took me buying a 25ft ethernet cable to hold directly in front of the shade (receiver). Now I am using the generic shade but it's useless again - I move it to a position across the room (maybe 12 feet away) and the shades stopped receiving the signal
I think this is a question to direct to Bali. The fault seems to lie there, not with Hubitat.
They will probably deflect responsibility since their normal remotes work fine. Also Bali and Graber are both owned by Spring Window Fashion which seems to be well known around the forums
Are these Z-Wave or Z-Wave Plus?
Do you have other Z-wave devices? If so, are they working okay?
Are there any firmware updates from Bali that might help with this issue? I cn't think of any situation where the short distance you mention could be an issue unless there is something between that might be blocking the signal such as metal.
Do you have any Z-Wave repeaters? Have you tried placing one close the shades?
I have Bali (Graber) roller blinds (from Home Depot). And they work well after pairing in close proximity with Hubitat.
In my setup, I have them all configured as Generic Z-Wave Shade, after the pairing process was completed. They all identify themselves like this one:
It's been a while since I did the registration, but it was done a few feet away from the rollers. I used a Macbook, in Wifi-bridge mode, so I could give Ethernet to the Hubitat (for the initial pairing).
An explicit Z-Wave repair was done after their initial pairing.
My Zwave Network had loads of [older, Leviton] nodes nearby. The C5 Hub is one floor away, through a bunch of walls, and it's working fine. It's a bit slow from time to time, presumably due to presence/use of the Leviton Vizia RF+, which are 40kbit ZWave (non-Plus). Otherwise a solid Z-Wave mesh.
Since that setup, I've slowly been replacing parts of the ZWave mesh with newer gear (mostly GE Motion-Switches), but it's always been functional. I don't think this has improved anything, I've really been doing it to get the motion-Z-Wave stuff
I ended up figuring it out. I had to add a Z wave repeater and that made all the difference
