Automations for kids home alone

School is nearly out for the year and my oldest child is likely going to be home unsupervised for one or two days a week. Just curious how others have used HA to help out with the transition. Anything from sensors on the snack cupboard to GPS tracking apps to screen time limiting is fair game.

So far he's been able to use one of our old phones with WhatsApp for calling/messaging us (wifi only), but we're probably going to upgrade him a basic smartphone.

Being a parent myself, I recommend simply chaining him in the basement with some hotpockets and a nintendo ds for company. That way you don't have to worry about tweaking automations

I like it... but I'm concerned about the WAF... pretty sure she won't be on board.

Well just this weekend I set up a schedule to disable internet for the various kids devices…they kept getting up at like 5am to watch YouTube.

My integration was custom for pfsense, but I can also add a button url for Pico/Hubitat

Yes... this...

Although in my house their second favorite thing to do this early is wake me up. Not sure which is worse.

Before they could easily turn on the tv i had an automation where I could call out to Alexa “watch cartoons” the tv would turn on and change the channel to Nickelodeon
