Automation Delays

Hey everyone,

I'm seeing some strange (and seemingly random) delays with some automations that aren't completely making sense to me. I previously had issues with ZWave performance, which the HE team addressed in several firmware updates.

What I'm seeing now almost seems like potential Hub overload:

Downstairs Bathroom Motion (Aeon Multisensor 6) fired at:

motion active Downstairs Bathroom Motion motion is active DEVICE 2019-02-26 01:41:12.915 PM PST

Downstairs Bathroom Light (Aeon Nano Dimmer) got signal and turned on at:

switch on Downstairs Bathroom Light was turned on [digital] DEVICE digital 2019-02-26 01:41:38.320 PM PST

So, basically, it was almost 30 seconds before the light came on - this is a simple Motion Lighting - based solely on Motion, not on Lux.

For background, I only have one 'User App' installed - Other Hub Pusher to support using Classic SmartThings app mainly for my partner (she prefers that to Alexa a lot of the time). I've paired back the update time in Other Hub Pusher to 15 min, and limited what gets pushed as real time.

What's particularly challenging here is that I can't seem to establish a pattern of when this is happening. There are several times recently where I thought that that Motion Lighting wasn't working correctly, but it was likely that the delays were just so out of whack that I turned on the light manually. And then there is the norm - about 85% of the time, things work flawlessly.

So, has anyone else seen this issue, and, do you have any suggestions on logs I should be capturing to help debug this?

Thanks.

Hey!

I'm having an issue that is similar to yours, and seeing that nobody has replied is not giving me much hope. Hopefully we can help each other out?

I've ran into delays, or sometimes flat out not-working automations and it seems random. Could you do me a favour? Next time you notice it happening, head over to the dashboard and go into the device that didn't get triggered and hit "Refresh". See if the device then gets into the state you expected it to get into.

For example, I have a door open/close sensor that turns on a z-wave light switch. When I open the door, sometimes the light doesn't turn on (or sometimes it takes 5+ seconds). But if I hit "Refresh" on the light switch device, it'll immediately turn on.

This appears to be unrelated to z-wave, as I have the exact same setup but with a zigbee device and this happens there too.

The hub is very close to these devices.

Could you try to replicate it with "Refresh" and see if that works? That'd give us some clues as to whether we have the same issue.

p.s. I just realized this is 3 years old. Have you figured out a solution since?

Start a new thread, and post your z-wave details page.

Indeed, so many things have changed since then. The user ended up upgrading from the original C4 hub to C7. If you are observing delays with a C7 hub, please consider creating a new thread. I am closing this one as it is too outdated.

This is indicative of a problem with your Z-Wave mesh. If you create a new thread, please be sure to include the details about your device make and model.
