Auto-unlock additional locks?

Hi there!

I'm considering switching from ST, and one of the things that I use ST most for is lock automation - and specifically, I have a chain of two doors (vestibule and then main entrance) where some users get access to both (family), and some to only one (deliveries).

First and foremost, is it relatively straightforward to assign users to individual and/or multiple locks?

Second, can I automate opening the second lock if a specific user opens the first? I do this with the Lock User Management SmartApp in ST and it works great (most of the time).

Thanks for any insight for this newbie. I wasn't able to easily answer this and don't want to buy the hub just to return it if this doesn't work.

The only thing that seemed odd to me was that you couldn't assign the same code to more than 1 lock per person. On SmartThings I had a code for each of my 2 locks that was the same for both but Lock Manager didn't like that so I had to come up with a different code for the other lock so basically I did something like 123450 on one and 123451 on the other.

Urgh - that's basically a non-starter - between that and a separate alarm code, it's a lot to ask someone to remember 3 or more different codes...

I'm new too so maybe there is a way. See what others say to me it wasn't a problem but I get it.

I have 3 locks and I use the same code for all 3. It is easy to add new users and select locks they can use. I use Lock Code Manager a built in app.

With that being said, depending on what locks you are using be forewarned some locks do not work as well in HE as ST (search forums for more info). Mine are older Z-wave non plus locks and they have been horrible since switching. I'm hoping to upgrade them to Zigbee. Others have had better luck with some locks as well so just an FYI

That I am not sure of.

And in addition to what @TechMedX said you can set up a rule to unlock a lock automatically based on the lock code entered on another lock.

Ah cool, I did not realize that (never had a reason to look), but just confirmed the log does show who/what code was entered so you could easily base rules on it.

awesome, thank you!

I'll likely be using the Schlage be469zp's - which seem to be OK based on what I'm reading? They work fine in ST and are zwave plus.

Yup I did get the same code on two locks not sure what I was doing wrong the first time. Still pretty green here myself.

Well, there does seem to be a “gotcha” that is mentioned in the BE469ZP quick start guide (but not the BE469NX user guide) that any added user code (4 digits by default, but can be changed to up to 8 digits) must be different from the first 4 (or 6) digits of the 6 digit master Programming Code. You may have run into this. I’ve had no trouble getting LCM to set same codes on our 2 BE469ZP locks, but I first deleted the 2 default codes as others have mentioned.

I think it was just me not thinking of the Hubitat way. I had entered my name and did the first lock before the other was setup. Then about 2 weeks later I was ready for the other lock and I clicked on my name and add code and tried to enter the same code. What I needed to do was click on my name and then the code and just add the other lock to that code. If I had done them both at the same time I'm sure I wouldn't have had that problem.

Yes when using lock manger I do believe it is best practice to delete all the codes from each lock, if you want to change the length it needs to be done at the lock, then add codes via lock manager.

Sounds right to me.
