I thought it was me, but my SIM card also didn't work in my ole dependable Alcatel flip phone.
Then, I thought it was the local tower.
But, there are news articles about it.
Spectrum, cable broadband provider, still working at home, hence my presence here.
Looks like I won't be getting Pushover notifications, or Text notifications either, lol.
ATT support page suggests using WiFi calling, which I've never done.
When I try to set it up, all I get is "502 Bad Gateway".
Perhaps I shouldn't have gotten rid of my landline, in a cost-cutting move, lol.
Maybe it's mostly just psychological. Not being able to dial 911. Will have to avoid climbing on tall ladders, running the chainsaw, etc.
I know, the Hub is still connected to the web via wifi, but I'm going to look into total independent operation of the Hub. This could've easily have affected Spectrum as well. I recall a time server is required. Not sure why the thing couldn't keep track of the time if power wasn't interrupted; my clock radio does, but it has a CR2032 battery.
It's bad enough when I get a power outage and everything goes down.
At 75, will have to avoid doing anything (same risks as above).
Actually, emergency calling should still work. So, if you have a 911 issue it should work. However, some 911 service providers can not receive calls from the 911 operator (same issue),
I'm at home though.
But no text messages or phone service.
So, in this case, Pushover is more resilient than SMS.
edit: So, if out and about, can receive Pushover notices as long as connected to a local WiFi, assuming same circumstance as I have.
AT&T seems to be working here (New Orleans). I called a friend much earlier today before I realized there was an AT&T outage. No issues with the call - she has AT&T. I'm on T-Mobile (via Google Fi).
No at&t service at all (phone, sms, internet) in Chattanooga (here for work).
Good thing the airport wifi works. The hotel wifi didn't work this morning. The front desk told me it was also at&t so the issue must be affecting more than just cellular service...
It's interesting how AT&T and DIRECTV Service Outage Information just craps out when you really could use it.
I've seen this phenomenon before, but communications with the plebes would be nice.
edit: me, being one
More than likely the servers used to setup wifi calling, when it is not enabled, are overloaded. If you had already setup wifi calling it should be working. Wait for a while and try again, you may be able to get to server as people get setup or stop trying.
Up and down. Was back up then down. Think towers are overloaded with initial connection requests. For now. leaving wifi off and it seems to stay connected.
Turned wifi calling back off. Of firm conviction i am paying a lot for their service and why the hell should i use my wifi to supplement their network.
Was able to sign on to wifi calling now. How can you see if it works though? I don't see any option to turn the phone off. Data, yes.
edit: I think I figured it out. You basically have to go to a place with wifi and no cell service. Removing the SIM card just disables wifi calling, which makes sense. I have no experience with wifi calling.
