Aqara FP300 not updating status

I just added an Aqara FP300 to my C8 using the community device driver. The device does not seem to update status (motion, occupied, etc.) unless I manually hit the refresh button on the device command page. Putting the device in a drawer in an empty room and the status does not change to unoccupied/inactive.

It seems to be communicating to Hubitat when looking at the logs (reporting battery status, temp, humidity, etc.). I have removed the device from Hubitat, factory reset, re-pair with no change in function. I have hit the button, saved preferences (no changes), hit configure, etc.

I am not sure if I have a bad sensor or if its buggy or something wrong with my network.

I have 4 of these. When they are first included they sometimes behave like that. I have found that after a few clicks of the button, and configure in the driver, they tend to behave. There is a dedicated driver for these, I recommend using that one.

Also do the spatial learning. I believe that helped me a bit.

One other thing to try, which is some general advice, is to include the device as close to the hub as possible.

I am using the dedicated device driver, sorry if I misspoke. I have tried clicking the button and configuring, refreshing, etc. and it doesn't seem to wake the device up. I have it in my hand and it still showing as unoccupied/inactive.

If you haven't invested too much time already, I would try a reset of the device and re-pair. If I remember correctly I had a similar issue, búr in reverse. I.e. It was always occupied.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried unpairing/resetting/repairing multiple times with no change in behavior.

I decided to try a different method. After removing from hubitat and resetting the device I changed the protocol back to Thread and connected the FP300 via my google nest display and then exposed it to Hubitat with the generic matter motion/temp/humidity driver. Interestingly, the sensor now seems to behave the way it is supposed to. I do not have any settings I can change in hubitat, but the issue I had with only using a PIR sensor seems to have gone away. I am using it in a bathroom to trigger lights and it doesn't shut off the lights when in the shower.

I am now wondering if there was an issue with the firmware when switching to zigbee in the Aqara app. I wonder if I switch it to zigbee again and pair with hubitat if it will fix the issues I had...

Edit: Never mind, spoke too soon. The sensor seems to have gone back to 'sleep' and is not reporting presence or motion any longer. I wonder if I just got a bad unit.

I am thinking it has to do with a new firmware version, so I have 4 working great, decided to put up 2 more getting the same thing you are. Beginning to wonder if they locked us out.

Old firmware of working versions i own is

Aqara Version 0.0.0_5841
Date Code 20260105
undefined ----

Vs the new ones

Aqara Version 0.0.0_6542
Date Code 20260515

Mine won’t even wake on button press, factory reset, switched to matter and back, repaired a dozen times, no luck with the 2 that came from the same batch as the ones that worked

Thanks for letting me know. I ordered a second one to see if it would behave differently than the first and I am still getting the same exact issues.

I have a couple different ideas to get to the same outcome for my use case (different mmwave sensor or additional PIR sensors, for example), however, I was wondering if it made sense to purchase one of the cheaper Aqara hubs and being the devices in through the that integration. Do you think that would be worth or should I go with my other options?

I am just trying to use a mmwave sensor in the bathroom to keep the lights on when in the shower. A second PIR sensor in the shower could accomplish the same thing I suppose.

Thanks!

I really like this sensor so it may be worth it, where I do have them they are working great, especially after they have marinated in that spot for a week or 2 and the ai has figured things out, I use it in 2 bathrooms for just the purpose you outlined

I am looking for a way to install the older firmware but no luck as of yet

Just an update in case anyone comes across this thread. I purchased an Aqara M200 hub and connected the FP300 to that hub via zigbee then bridges the M200 hub via matter to hubitat. The FP300 now has worked exactly as it should in hubitat, the only downside is I had to purchase the Aqara hub and all settings for the FP300 have to be made via the Aqara app. Still worth it in my opinion as I plan on incorporating a few more of these mmwave sensors throughout the house.
