Anyone used long range yet?

I see that 2.3.9 has added long range support on C8 hubs, but I have not seen any threads with user experiences yet. Or at least none in my search results.

I'm considering upgrading one of my C7 hubs to a C8, but the only reason would be to use long range to put some Zooz LR contact sensors at the end of my 300+ foot driveway. My C7 works great otherwise.

Has anyone paired their C8 to an LR device and have any feedback to how well it works?

Also, any chance the C7 will get 700 LR support?

I've a C8 and C8-Pro, had LR devices on both. The only device I actually tested range on was a Zooz ZSE41 LR contact sensor.

Worked great, but my distance wasn't in the range you're looking for, my sensor was "only" approx. 130-ish feet from the hub.

IIRC @JasonJoel had done some long distance LR stress-testing in the range you're interested in recently.

Those are the same sensors I have. I'm really anxious to have one on my mailbox since the mail delivery time is very inconsistent. Good to know it at least included in LR.

30+ of them. Mostly Zooz, but a few other manufacturers as well.

The hub side works fine and has a very good antenna.

How well the device works depends on the device, manufacturer, antenna design, objects in between, and orientation of the sensor. Some devices I can get hundreds of feet, some I can only get 50.

A few hundred feet is LIKELY doable if there aren't a ton of obstacles/obstructions in between.

Nothing has been announced. Not technically impossible from a hardware standpoint, but as they aren't working on it now I wouldn't say it is any time soon / wouldn't wait for it.

Yes, it is working fine in LR mode and I recommend you get @jtp10181's excellent community driver to use w/it :

If you're a Zooz user you should check out all of Jeff's Zooz drivers.

I have converted a half dozen of my Zooz battery operated 800 series devices from "mesh" to "LR". All of them are within 50 feet of the HE, and all of them were connected "direct" before I changed them to LR. So far, the only change has been a negative; one of the devices has reported a small number of "errors" that I never received when it was connected via Mesh.

I just connected two of these to my C-8p and once I got them in LR mode they are working OK. I just installed one of them on a gate today. It is only 50 or 60 feet from the hub but there are two walls in between and my house is built like a bunker. 1950s brick with framing and sheetrock over it - so two brick walls and two sheet rocked walls.

I thought about walking down the street with it to see how far I could get but it was already 99 degrees outside so I decided not to. Maybe when I install the other sensor.

There was a discussion on driveway sensors a little while ago.
I've seen good results on an Ecolink z-wave (non-LR) sensor in my gate control box.
Better than the Zooz ZSE18LR's in the mailbox and package bin.

But...maybe it's the steel deer fence, lol.

@JasonJoel sums it up nicely.

I use a Dakota Alert Doorbell UTRE-4K Plus paired with a zen17 in dry contact sense mode. Works great for a mail box 2000 feet from the house. Supposedly good for up to a mile. The Dakota Alert only has 2 dry contacts but it also has 12 Volt out so that circuit board turn the 12 Volt into a third dry contact. I have 2 drive sensors and the mail box setup this way.

Most of the Zooz devices say "up to one mile in LR mode". I wonder if 1500' is doable if the device is in an outdoor weatherproofed fiberglass or plastic box and the HE is in the house.

News flash, lol:
Possible user error.
Device was on "least" sensitive...spiders, maybe.
Set it on "most"; will report if performance improves.
