Any way to detect if a car is plugged in to a Zappi Car Charger

I have a Zappi V2 Car Charger (with Hub). I have it set on Eco+, and that will usually ensure that the car only starts to charge when there is sufficient power from my solar panels. Charging normally starts if there is greater than 1.4kW available, that is surplus power that would normally go back to the grid.

My issue is that there is a Solar Engineering power diverter in the system, and that is designed to take any power that is surplus to the general house requirement and divert that surplus to the hot water immersion heater. Inevitably, this means that there needs to be excellent power generating conditions in order to provide the additional 1.4kW of power required to start the car charging.

The CT Clamps that monitor the flow for the power diverter are connected to a unit that itself is connected to the main unit in the hot-press by WiFi. I have found that by cutting the power to this unit that I can stop the power diverter from powering the immersion heater. I have now fitted a Shelly to this device and can now manually stop this from working through the Hubitat Dashboard.

I know that the MiEnergi Eddy (power diverter) will allow you to configure the Zappi to work with the diverter, but I don't have an Eddy, and it is quite an expensive purchase, and so I would like to know if anyone can suggest how I might go about automatically switching off the power to the Eddy WiFi sender when the car is connected. Achieving this would then enable me to get the best return from the panels.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Don't know what to say about all that :grinning:

Thanks RosieUK the reply and some good suggestions. I'll evaluate them all to see which ones I might be able work with.
