Any of my fellow geeks on a budget have you ever calibrated a tv using the disc?

I can’t afford the $250 professional one but a disc like the Disney WOW: World of Wonder does it make a difference?

Yes it does.

You can also try to find parameter settings for your Tv online. There are a few site who review and calibrate TVs. Those settings maybe aren’t 100% for your set since every set differ a little, but they are often way better than factory default and a good way to start.
Look HERE if your Tv is listed.

I used an iPhone app called THX tune-up along with my Apple TV. It worked great.

I tried one of the discs and it was OK, but the above was way better.

I have done them myself and had them professionally done... But I find I don't really like calibrated settings - at least not in non-dedicated theater rooms with very controlled lighting.

Lighting levels vary too much in my casual living room areas for a calibrated screen to look right - they are always way too dark and washed out.

And if you turn on automatic correction features like brightness adjustment, then you just wrecked the calibration anyway... So in those cases just set it to what looks good to you.

While I've never had mine professionally done, I agree. I have tried the auto correction and found them to be useless on my sets. I have 2 settings on most of my TV's, a day and night. My L/R set has 3 do to the varying light. I have 4 for my PC monitor.

Probably tonns of Youtube videos on what other people set.
Search for calibration or picture settings for your TV model, and you probably get some good numbers to go from.
Mine was done by a professional, before I bought it, but for my liking, i adjusted it... hehe
We are all different, so I am a believer that perfect does not suite us all! You will always find besservissers out ther, but go with what you like, Your the one watching it.

A good tip though, whatch star warz, and se if you can get the stars to show up brighter, but without making everything else washed out.
