Yeah, I can implement a fallback to backfill fan mode with "auto" if not available.
Operating state is a bit more complex since it should always be populated. That's how user would know if the thermostat is heating (burner on) or idle (burner off). Which driver is this?

Haven't found a Matter thermostat that populates this yet..
I'll fake it for the ez dashboard based on the thermostat mode, then. Just keep in mind that if the dashboard says "heating", it doesn't actually mean it ![]()

Now I see that the thermostatOperatingState should be re-evaluated also when the temperature changes.
Yeah basically I have created a rule that triggers a HV that does exactly this because it was missing.
It more of the fact we need a TRV driver which is standard in the UK
if temperature < heatingSetpoint (or >=), you're almost not faking it
