Another water softener level "sensor"

I actually have a scale underneath my water softener but I was looking for the simpler device and here is what I came up with..

  1. a weight in the tank that goes down as the salt goes down. 3d printed and then filled with water and plugged.
  2. a ball and a socket with a switch..such that the ball will close the switch when the level gets too low. I did have to add a mini pulley for smooth cable motion

Did you consider an ultrasonic ranging sensor to measure the water level? It would only require modifying the lid and would tell you how much salt is left vs an on/off notification.

I think you are right ...that would have worked : ) I actually use one at my parents house to tell when the car is in the garage.....we'll see if super simple work out in the long run : )

My low tech solution.

A Third Reality moisture sensor, screw contacts connected to the micro switch. Audible beep and notification. Activated by a jar on a string.
