I have a Zebra blind Graber cell shade in my office and two shades in my room. They are using the Generic Z-Wave Shade Driver. All has been working great. Today, the only changes I made were I added a Hue Light Strip and Hue Dimmer directly to Hubitat. I modified my Rule Machine rule for controlling the blinds to include the new hue dimmer. It worked fine the first time I used it and then all went to hell. All the blinds stop responding to commands from both remotes and the hub interface. The * windowShade : status would update to closing when I click close or opening when I clicked open, but the blind didnt do anything. I could still open and close it with the physical button on the headrail. As a note, the office blind was never part of the Rule Machine rule that I modified to use with the dimmer. I tried to do a z-wave repair and all 3 failed the repair.
The device status look like the following:
Current States
position : 99
switch : on
windowShade : closing
I suppose I can try to exclude them from the network and try re-adding them, but I am concerned that his happened. I need these to be fairly reliable as I am also installing one in my disabled father-in-laws room so opening and closing the shades are easier for him.
Might try to shutdown and power off the hub for 30 secs and power back on to see if the devices magically respond. Sometimes the Z-Wave radio gets in trouble and a basic reboot from a power off can bring back devices, or at least help with an individual repair. If a repair fails, try again and either they will find a route back, or end up having to be forced off the hub, and you can re-include them.
The rules will be OK, but after a successful re-inclusion, you can add them back to the apps that they were part of.
I have several Zebra blinds on the C7 and they are holding for now. But each time I add another Z-Wave switch, I feel like I'm playing a game of Z-Wave roulette...
When my C7 is unable to communicate on a failed route to a previously working Z-Wave device, I have to {forcefully) remove it from the hub and hope that the hub will remove it cleanly. This exclusion process usually works without a hitch about 75% of the time. If so, one can begin a factory reset and inclusion of the device again. If not, and the hub creates a ghost device (check in settings for Z-Wave), one will need to try to keep removing that device from the C7's Z-Wave radio with a shutdown, power off (30 sec) and power on cycle. You may need to repeat a few times to see if the device and hub can part ways normally! If not, a really hard device removal is needed, I purchased a Z-Wave stick (UZB) and with PC Controller software, one can manually yank it out of the C7's radio! Let's hope the failed devices just remove as expected during C7's exclusion process and the Z-Wave table looks clean.
To start over, Google search for 'Zebrablind inclusion exclusion smartthings' and you will find several helpful videos with the steps to factory reset the blind, pair it with a remote, and then pair it to a hub.
Wow, what an adventure. I could not get them to exclude so I manually removed them from hubitat. I then couldnt get them to include. It kept getting stuck at initializing. I tried holding the program button on the shade to factory reset. I held it too long and it forgot it's upper and lower positions. I rebooted the hub and kpet trying and finally it got re-added. Then I had to re-pair the remote directly to the shade. FINALLY I got the upper and lower limit reset.
Note to everyone out there. Do not hold the program button longer than when you see it flash amber or you will remove the upper and lower limits and have to reprogram them.
