All secure mode z-wave devices stopped working

I added an Inovelli LZW31-SN yesterday and all was working fine. Then at just around 11:35pm PST) in Jan 31, 2020 it stopped working.
I have been trying to figure out why, and now today I learned my other ZWave Secure mode switches aren’t working. I check my garage door opener and it too is not working.

ALL ZWAVE+Secure mode devices have stopped working, but regular zwave devices still work.

I have enabled and disabled my zwave network, but that did not fix it. I wave toggled the zwave mode from all secure devices to locks and door updates and back and updates. Nothing works in this mode. I can’t even join my z-stick to the Hubitat anymore.

The mode you should use is the Locks and Garage Doors, All Secure Zwave is not really recommended.

One thing to try is to go to settings and click "Hub Shutdown" (not reboot) when the light on the hub changes after it powers down, unplug the power cable for 30 seconds (which allows the zwave radio to fully power down) Then reboot your hub and usually this will bring the devices back working again.

Thanks. I will that mode a try and try to re-join my devices.

Thanks, but this did not work. All my devices that were formerly Z-Wave paired with secure mode will not pair back up even without secure mode.

@armand - have you tried excluding each of those previously securely-paired devices while they're very close to HE? Maybe using a long network cable for your HE?

Alternatively, do you have a small hand-held z-wave controller like a Aeotec Minimote? This can be used to exclude devices as well.

First thing I tried. It will not pair to anything that support security. My Z-Stick, my new dimmer, my existing switch. I cannot include nor exclude. But all my non-secure mode stuff is still working. I have been trying to use my z-stick to exclude it but now I am wondering if something may have happened to my inovelli devices because of the date change, because they are completely dead now. My garage light won't even work local (which I know can happen if the firmware get hung for some reason)... Need to trace the breaker and kill that other switch to see if maybe it is hung, and causing the issue to these other devices somehow. That's about the only other thing I can think of that makes sense.

Give the Air Gap a try first. If it is properly designed, the air gap will power off all the circuitry. We already know that Jasco got it wrong in their early devices (sold under: GE/Honeywell). But it could save you more than a few minutes of tracing time

Also, don't securely pair any devices except Locks and Garage Door Openers. It's allowed but the protocol increases the quantity of packets per 'action' and thus 'steals' radio time from other devices.

the air gap on the new Red Series inovelli dimmers only disconnects the load, not the device. I had killed the breaker with no luck. on my hunch above, I went to the breaker and killed power to my garage. That switch was not even part of the maintenance, but it is another secure mode switch. As soon as I did, by garage door opener started working, and the problem dimmer came back to life. So, apparently, it is possible for the z-wave secure devices to flood the secure network.

Thanks. now that I got the secure device power cycled that was causing the issue, the whole z-wave network is healthy again. Crazy stuff always happens to me. go figure. I have already turned off secure mode for now.

Very sad to hear that since I just got one of those in yesterday's Amazon delivery. :frowning:

Still the best line of z-wave devices I ever owned. And they now have the first light dimmer/fan controller I have ever seen for z-wave. This dimmer is using scene 2 to control fan speed up/down and dimmer on/off to control my lights. this is non-load controlling, acting as just a remote to control bond which controls my fan controllers. I use one button device rule for the fan controller, and a single rule for the light control (the mirror app) to control the lights.

I feel like I bought the very last of the original line a year ago... just as they dried up. I liked them, wanted more. I waited and delayed replacing my remaining non-plus ZWave til last week to get my hands on the Red Series.

The good news is.. I'll be replacing Jasco (GE) devices that have the same Air Gap "miss". I won't even notice, right??

I have one GE Jasco 3-way left, and a couple GoControl I need to replace. Inovelli actually told me the old manufacturer of their NZW30 and NZW31 that I can buy the old devices and then just flash them with the inovelli firmware to keep the old look, which I will do for two of my switches but I will replace the Jasco with an LZW30 or LZW31.
So, if you want to buy the old one to keep the same look, just ask them. They are very helpful.

That is not my experience, nor is it consistent with what I've read of others'. If this happening to you, you may have flipped the line and load wires when connecting the switch. Check them with a multimeter (or consult someone who can) to be sure. I'm not sure if this could account for your other problems, but it's definitely not a good thing if yours does this either way.

well, I can confirm this is not the case. The line (black wire) is connected to the line on the dimmer. The load is connected to the red wire. The neutral is connected to the white wire. The traveler is not attached (it’s not a 3-way). All load on/off and dimmer control work as intended - this would it be the case if it was reversed)
