I been trying to pair my Alfred DB2 lock (with z-wave module). When I try to discover, my C5 Hubitat never sees the device anymore. The reason I say anymore is I first tried it, it worked but was never really working. Could not lock/unlock etc. I tried to exclude the lock and had to force the exclude. Now the Hubitat never finds the Alfred. I contacted Alfred and they said make sure I pair in S2. Not sure what that means. I have been putting the Alfred in inclusion mode by going into master mode then hitting 8 then 1. It says its connect to network almost immediately. I looked thru my list of z-wave devices but see no Alfred device.
any suggestions?
May need to do a factory reset on the lock.
So this has likely created a stranded z-wave device. I would recommend factory resetting the lock, and then excluding it before attempting another include.
I don't know if that lock supports S0 (or if S2 devices will step down to S0), but I am fairly sure that the C-5 doesn't support S2.
Thanks. I should have mentioned I did a lock reset per Alfred's instructions.
I did factory rest Alfred according to their instructions. Afterwards I put the Alfred in exclude mode (i.e. master code + 8 +2). Then set Hubitat in exclude mode. The Alfred says it failed. It sounds like something is stuck in limbo.
I should also add that I shutdown the C5 via setup, then unplugged for well over a minute, then plugged back in. That didn't help.
How close is the lock to the hub?
The lock does support, S2. Hubitat C5 doesn't support that but should support legacy Network encryption. Typically this is on by default in your Z-Wave configuration on your hub and should be supported with the lock. I have a hubitat C7 with an Alfred lock db2 module and it does operate in the S2 encryption protocol.
I've been separating all my S2 devices from my other Z-Wave devices for better security and performance reasons. Leveraging The hub mesh feature to display those devices into my hubitat C5 where all my rules run from and my legacy devices reside.
I have a repeater within 2 ft of the lock but the hub is some distance away. I will move the hub temporarily and try again. Thx.
Secure Pairing cannot occur through a repeater, and by design also uses a low power mode.
SOLVED...Alfred sent me instructions for a "hard" factory reset. The instructions they publish is more of a "soft" reset. The hard reset did the trick.
Recommend you still do an exclude before you include it.
