Alexa Skill : The skill linked with living room is not enabled

I want to make sure I understand the capabilities of HE + Alexa. I want to be able to say things like "Alexa turn off the lights in my living room." Now as I set up groups and scenes through HE do those settings get picked up by Alexa? Do I need to discover new devices in the Alexa app?

After setting up a room in the Motion Lighting App. I set the Control with Alexa using this name to "Living Room"

When I tried saying "Hey Alexa, turn off the lights in the living room." I got a response from Alexa saying that the skill linked with living room is not enabled.

I've searched the forum and tried the following.

  1. Delete Alexa Skill App inside of HE
  2. Disable the skill in the Alexa app on my phone
  3. Closed the app and restarted it
  4. Enabled the Hubitat Skill + Authorize it

The Alexa Skill did automatically get added to HE. When I look at my Alexa app, There aren't any new groups or commands created. Is that something I'm going to have to go into the Alexa app to set up every time I set up a new Motion Lighting App.

In the Motion Lighting App, I again added: "Living Room" as the name Alexa should use to control the living room lights, but still get the response saying the skill linked with the living room is not enabled.

I know it's probably something I"m just overlooking so any help would be appreciated.

Did you go into the Amazon Echo Skill in HE and make sure that Living Room was selected as a device to be linked to Alexa?

ETA: I'm not sure how you're setting up a room with Motion Lighting. You might have better luck using the Groups and Scenes app to set up a Living Room group. This will create a virtual "Living Room" device that can be linked to Alexa via the Amazon Echo Skill app in HE.

Thanks for the response @jabecker. I did make sure that Living Room was selected as a device to be linked to Alexa.

The weird thing is that I'm getting control inside of the actual app, but using the voice command continues to cause Alexa to respond saying "The skill linked with living room is not enabled."

Below you can see that when using the app, the living room is connected to hubitat. The second photo is after I tap the switch to turn off the light. The app says "Waiting for Hubitat..." and then the lights go off.

Do you have any idea why controlling the living room through the app would be working but controlling the living room through the voice-command wouldn't be working?

Thanks again for the response. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me look into this.

Hmmm... The only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is that there's something else in the Alexa app — the one your phone — that's called Living Room, or something close to that, and Alexa is getting confused about which Living Room you mean. I know that the Alexa app also includes groups, and I think Living Room is one of their default groups. You might try renaming your light group to something else totally not room related, like George or Pine Tree. I think you could do this in the Alexa app to start, vs on HE. Then if that works, you could delete the group from Alexa, rename it in HE, and let it propagate to Alexa again.

ETA: You might also look at your Alexa app's history to see what Alexa thinks it's hearing. Maybe it's hearing you say something else?

Instead of the phrase above, try simply "Alexa, turn off Living Room". I think the "in the living room" is messing up Alexa.

I had to rename my echo devices from living room to living room echo because it messed with the voice control of rooms. But I used to get “living room doesn’t support that” alert.

@jabecker, @ogiewon, and @nibyak. Thank you! It was a mix of all of those things. I changed my echo to living room echo, I had a group and lights named Living room so I changed that, and then also had to delete the living room group on the Alexa app that automatically was created with nothing in it. It's all working perfect now! Thanks again!!

I have this very problem with Harmony. I disabled the Harmony Skill in Alexa and added a virtual switch for “Apple TV” that hooks to Harmony using a device driver.

When I say, “Alexa, turn on Apple TV” I get the “the skill linked to ....”. If I change this name to anything other than Apple TV, it works.

How do I delete this “phantom Alexa device” when it doesn’t appear in the Alexa app or on the site “Alexa.Amazon.com”?
