Alexa Skill integration problem

Hello. I am setting up HE coming from SmartThings. I have followed the step to habilitate the Skill on Alexa and get the error "Unable to link Hubitat with Alexa". Message says "we are experiencing a problem connecting with your the skill you link your account. You can try linking your account again by visiting the Hubitat Skill Page".

Have you added the Amazon Echo Skill on Hubitat? It's built-in, but you still must add it before turning on the skill in the Alexa app.

Actually, unless something has changed, the Amazon Echo Skill app will be automagically installed on your hub when the Hubitat Skill is enabled within the Alexa mobile phone app. Of course, this only works if the Hubitat Hub is properly registered to the Hubitat Cloud Server, and if the hub has a solid connection to the Hubitat Cloud Server. Often, issues occur when users attempt to set a static IP address directly on their Hubitat hub, without correctly configuring Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS Servers. This is why I always recommend users simply use DHCP with a reserved IP address for their HE hub on their router.

Thank you for your feedback. This is what I have done so far and still get "unsuccessful Linking"

  • Added the Amazon Echo Skill on Hubitat and selected all devices available
  • Assigned a static IP on the DHCP Reservations Hub
  • Opened the Alexa App on my phone and search for Hubitat Skill
  • Tried Linking the account and still got the "unsuccessful Linking" Message

Please note that I live in Panama-Panama in case that could affect, but most of my devices and skills works just fine.

Any other ideas

Does the Hubitat Mobile app on your phone connect successfully to your Hubitat Hub when you are not on your home network? The reason I ask this is to determine whether or not your Hubitat Hub is truly connected to the Hubitat cloud server or not?

Also, please make sure the date and time on your Hubitat hub is set correctly.

I am tagging @support_team from Hubitat, as they might be able to answer the question of whether or not Panama is a supported location for the Hubitat Skill on Alexa.

That might be an issue. But please send a private message to @support_team along with your hub's MAC address so we can further investigate.

Thank you very much

Thank you for your feedback. I have not being able to connect outside of my home network, but just Assigned a static IP on the DHCP Reservations Hub, so will try again once I leave home.

 this is usually a tell-tale sign that the Hub is not connected to the Hubitat cloud server. Hopefully the Hubitat Support team will be able to determine the root cause of the issue.

I tried connecting to my hub from my phone and did not work, so probably that might be the cause. I think I followed all steps in order to properly register HE but doesn't work

Did you happen to set a static IP on the hub itself? If so, reset it back to DHCP and reserve the IP on the router.

Usually when the hub does not connect to the cloud it is because of a static IP and misconfigured DNS servers. DHCP will get the DNS from the router.

Thank you for pointing that out. I'm new to HE and bought mine from ebay to try. Just found out that it was already registered to other email. Just contacted support for help. Probably that might be the cause Alexa Skill is not working.

Contact the seller to deregister it.
