Alexa, "is not responding" but device works normally

@bobbyD I have a pair of Zigbee Zen Thermostats and both work just fine - however in the last 2 days, when a set temp command is used via Alexa, the "Downstairs" unit will generate a "is not responding" response from Alexa 9/10 times.

However, the temp is set and the Zigbee comms look normal. Nothing else does this, including the upstairs Zen thermostat.

any Ideas on what to look for?

Hi there, the problem is with Alexa, not with your particular device. If you didn't try already, tun on the "instant response" in the Amazon Echo Skill app, to see if that resolves the problem.

Thank you, I’ll try that.

this has been an issue since 2.2.3.118. same applies to dimmers as well. changing the setting in the alexa skill app won't change it

It actually has helped for me - the setting change always worked but Alexa would complain it wasn't responding. It didn't happen on any other device, dimmers included.

nice. i'll have to keep looking for myself. i've tried it on/off and still get the message from alexa

Same problem here with a curtain. When ask to Alexa set it in 50%, it works, but Alexa says the curtain is no responding or says that something went wrong. Did anyone have solved that? Thanks

Same here. Light command works properly and quickly. Alexa pauses and says "device is not responding."

Any solution to this yet?

No more issues for me.

mine has been good for a bit

@dJOS How has this Thermostat been working for you? My brother- & sister-in-law are looking for a smart thermostat but don't have a c-wire available.

They also already have an alexa show, which I think has a built-in zigbee hub. I'm curious if the Zen thermostat will pair directly with the show.

It's been excellent, and the WAF is very high due to the minimalist design.

If the Echo has a Zigbee hub in it, the Zen should pair without issue and work well.

Some of the Shows have the zigbee hub, but not all…

Yep, that's why I used the word "if". :sunglasses:

Hmm... just found this... might have to do more research. Zen support says you need a 3rd party hub.

According the the Developer doco Thermostats aren't supported - but I dont know how up-to-date this info is:
