Alexa, fart

We have family coming for Christmas including my two grandnephews who are at the age (11 and 13) where anything related to farting, burping, or poop is hysterical. We use our echo dots to play Christmas music throughout the house and for the past several years, both kids try to outdo one another by incessantly asking Alexa to perform all manner of farting and burping. I’ll admit it’s funny for the first 5 minutes, but it quickly escalates to the point that I end up unplugging and collecting all of the echo dots.

This year I thought I’d try something different. I created a number of Alexa routines triggered by multiple variations each of “Alexa, burp”, “Alexa, fart”, “Alexa, play the taco fart song”. Alexa responds to the request with a simple “Nope”.

I’m sure they’ll try to find a work around and will probably succeed but I’ll continue to add routines until I wear the kids out. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the reminder. Brother and niece arrive Thursday and I try to customize a few commands with inside jokes.

Use an Alexa Blueprint instead. You can have multiple ways to trigger same action of Alexa saying "Nope". I use it for my room aware commands.

Google will provide a sample fart.

This is fantastic. My four year old also has a fascination with getting Alexa to fart. We just mute the device for a bit once it gets too much, but I’m totally going to do this instead.

You can have multiple phrases trigger the same routine as well. I think it's limited to 9 or 10 but that's probably enough for my purposes. Routines are also convenient in that I can easily add a new routine or add a phrase to an existing routine from the Alexa app. I suspect the kids are going to be challenged by trying to make her fart--I'll be ready with the Alexa app close at hand :D.

Some of us never grow out of that…

Perhaps you could be the "uncool" relative and have Alexa quoting the impacts farting from livestock has on the amount of methane in the atmosphere and the flow on effects to climate change....
