As the title of the post implies, I can get the Alexa skill to work just fine. It discovers and operates items just fine.
After about four or so days, Alexa will respond "Hmmm... I can't find "name of device".
Resetting app does not help. Initiating discovery does not help. The only thing that works is powering down and restarting the C7 Hub. While the Alexa skill does not function properly, the Hub still works it's schedule quite happily. It's just an Alexa issue. I have never used any Alexa add-on other than the recommended "Smart Home Skill".
(Additional Note: I just found out the hub was unavailable on the cloud. Assuming Alexa uses cloud communication to get to the hub, this makes sense. So what could be causing the HUB to loose it's connection to the cloud while on a reliable internet connection?)
Shall I just wait for the approaching update to the hub? Anyone else with this issue?
Make sure you reserve an IP address in your router’s DHCP Server for the Hubitat hub. This will help to maintain the cloud server connection. My guess is your hub’s up address is being changed every 4 days.
Well, when I got home, it turns out the hub is completely blank. Like a first day initialization. I have no earthly idea how that happened. Perhaps it was a result of trying to access the hub from the cloud. Now trying to remember how to reset all my devices for inclusion again.
Not sure what you mean by that exactly, but just using dashboard or even Alexa via cloud should not have access to any part of the hub that could be erased.
If it really is blank, it takes a "full reset" to do that via the interface. And that isn't exactly one step or easy to access, unless you are purposely doing so.
So that leaves other unusual possibilities.
Have support walk through a couple things with you before you touch anything if at all possible.
Tried the restore but after a successful indication, there were no devices showing up. Very weird.
Started over:
Devices re-added, static IPs given and a manual backup made of the config, We will see if the Alexa serves for a week. Thanks for the suggestions!
(I see that I did not restore properly now. Thanks for the link to the guide aaiyar)
