I am just wondering if any developers think we will be able to use the new Airtags in conjunction with homebrige to trigger presence detection on hubitat much like we do now with phones? It would be a relative easy, cheap, and reliable use for people. Even android users. For 200 bucks a person could have a HomePod mini and four airtags.
I cant find any details of HomeKit support for AirTags out there..
If it appears as a binary sensor in HomeKit I'm pretty sure it would be possible. Maybe even more localised detection within rooms.
Apple are walking a privacy line here..
You wont get the info out of Find My Airtag - pretty sure about that.
My initial thought is if it’s available in shortcuts you can then trigger a HomeKit scene or ping a url, so it seems it’s in the realm of possibility.
That said, I expect the device will not be updating its location very timely when you don’t have the app open (battery saving measure) so I don’t know what value it might have as updates might not be timely.
I’d see this as a limitation of Bluetooth LE and not necessarily the air tag itself.
You can get location of apple devices from
The iCloud api currently. I have not been able to verify if items in the find my network Will also be exposed but with deliveries this week we should know soon.
