Does anyone use the Airport Express Gen 2 for its AirPlay functionality?
My use case:
-
I have small in-wall speakers near two entry doors that play an audible chime when a door is opened. The previously were keypads for alarm system before implementing Konnected.
-
The chime is currently played through an Echo Dot located inside my On-Q panel via an Alexa routine.
The goal: Move away from Alexa entirely and transition to HomePods while maintaining this functionality.
The challenge: My On-Q panel doesn't have the depth or room to accommodate a HomePod mini. Installing one just to use its audio output also seems wasteful when I only need the AirPlay functionality, not the speaker itself while also wanting it to be hardwired versus WiFi.
I'd prefer to use an Airport Express Gen 2, for the reasons above, with the existing in-wall speakers rather than build a custom ESP32-based AirPlay audio device and figure out how to trigger it through the available drivers.
Has anyone successfully used an Airport Express Gen 2 with Hubitat to trigger local audio files for events like door chimes or TTS?
