I've had one of these for years and since upgrading to a 8 Pro no devices route through it. Since I upgraded to ZwaveJS recently I started watching things like this and noticed that there's definitely nothing using this Aeotec as a repeater.
Advice: Remove it? Leave it in? Is it a net plus or negative in any way?
I discovered the same, even long before JS -- a device routing through one of my RE7s was a rarity. I don't think there's any design issue with those devices: I just have a relatively small house and devices typically connect direct.
Though admittedly not super rational, I do like the notion of having an underlying backbone of well-positioned repeaters, so I replaced my RE7s with Zooz ZAC38s -- that gives me backbone peace-of-mind plus power-outage notification capability on my most important circuits.
I too have harboured one of these parasites for years.
I don't think there is anything routing through it but on JS I don't know how to tell.
ZIP had the wonderfull ZW Mesh app.
A bit more tedious than the ZW Mesh app, but you can grab the a device ID on the ZW Details page and then do a CTRL-F search on it to highlight devices routing through it...
Great idea.
I have one iBlind on the opposite side of the house routing through it; pointless.
I only put the repeater where it is to be the closest hop to my back garage as it has 3 ZW devices installed.
Pull the tooth!
Thanks for the interesting adventure. I have both an Aeotec 6 and 7. Originally purchased for mesh support on a C7. On the current C8 nothing is routing through either one. Guess I'll pull the plug and see if anything changes.
Edit: I'm going to keep the 7 plugged in. It functions as a useful very low lumen foot path illuminating night light near the master bedroom door.
