I have just made a foray into Zwave devices for the first time. I have purchased a couple of Aeotec Multisensor 7 devices.
I added them to my Habitat (C8), but have been unable to use them using basic rules. The device shows up when creating a motion rule, but the action is never initiated.
I have the most up to date Hubitat firmware installed, but the MS7 firmware is out of date.
I cannot find a way to update the MS7 device firmware through Hubitat.
I have a few separate questions.
Is it possible to update the MS7 firmware through Hubitat?
If so, how?
In my list of devices, the MS7 icon shows up as red. I assume this is a problem, but I cannot see a problem listed anywhere.
I am running the MS7 on battery. Does the Hubitat have an issue with this power source?
I am fairly new to this Hubitat world, so any help is appreciated.
Have you seen motion go inactive or is it always stuck on active? Just wondering because your screenshot shows it active, and that would explain why the automation is not working if it is stuck.
I'm curious why is says its on mains.
Not that it's a factor, but you never know.
Does it work on mains w/no battery?
Did you pair it on mains?
Just thinking out loud.
No, Aeotec doesn't have an 800 version of this device. The "7" in the name is how Aeotec identifies its ZW series, so this is 700 device (and it's not LR capable).
Thanks for all your input. I just can't get this fixed.
I thought maybe I had a defective one, so I open up another added this to my H8.
The results were the same. The only question I have about the installation is this. When installing it asks about S2 security. It states that's some devices can struggle with this option turned on.
I subsequently chose to leave that option off. Is this something that could give me this issue?
Now on to your questions.
I have Installed the latest firmware on the sensor. It appears to have updated, but I can't be sure.
The latest version I installed was 1.6.7.2. Hubitat only reports the latest firmware as 1.06
That was what it reported even before I started,
The device is on a 5 volt power supply instead of batteries. That is an option for the Multisensor 7.
I added the device under battery power, but switched it to the power supply when I read that the device worked better in Hubitat that way.
The second sensor that has the same issue was installed with the power supply.
The issue is that the sensor gets stuck in active mode. It won't release this connection.
Per the MS7 user guide, if changed power source after pairing, you need to exclude & re-include to properly identify the device's power source.
This is a common necessity for devices that can run on either battery or mains (but are not designed to switch power sources on-the-fly -- in other words, the battery capability in this case is not a power outage backup).
That means the contact is open.
Green means the contact is closed.
Red is not "active"...red is open.
Are you sure you're touching the magnet to the sensor in the right orientation?
There should be little marks, or whatever, that line up.
I think since it went green once, you made the right contact with the sensor.
It could be as, excuse the expression but we've all done it, stupid as that.
Not that it's applicable, but it might.
Every once in a while a contact sensor will get stuck on open for me.
I temporarily change the driver to virtual contact, and then change it to not closed.
Then I change the driver back to the real one.
Maybe you could try it with the motion sensor and see what happens.
How about hitting "configure"? You usually have to wake up the battery device before it takes the command.
How about this? What's the timeout set for? This is on my Zooz: 10 seconds.
Just got myself one of those Aeotec Multisensor 7 but didn't read first on the forum about all these issue.
Is it possible to get it working on battery as motion & humidity sensor? Or it is a waste of time? If not anything that you can suggest for motion & humidity sensor on battery?
Search the community as there have been many “multisensor 7” threads over the past few years. Definitely people using it and you might find some folks to ask.
