Aeon Home Energy Meter ZW095-A

I actually have two of these HEM Gen 5 devices.

I use one to monitor whole house energy usage. I wish I had a stock driver that monitored KWH and had the ability to configure a reset for a specific day each month, along with being able to input my current price I pay my utility in order for it to auto calculate how much my electric bill will be for each month. Log the final calculation in a log before it resets to the next months bill cycle.

I also have a 2nd HEM gen 5 that monitors my dryer on one leg and my stove on the 2nd leg. I'd like to get alerts when the stove is left on for more then 1 hour, and get alerting when the dryer is finished. I use a Aeotech switch to monitor my washer... not yet imported into HE but still in ST.

I'm not a programmer, but praying for one here to maybe put this together? :slight_smile: Wishful thinking I know. Thanks!

I'm using this code, I modified it to work in HE, I believe it will work for you for the whole house, not sure if for the dryer and stove because I only see the total watts, not separated for each clamp. (correction, the driver below has separate watts for each clamp, power is total watts, power1 is clamp 1 watts and power2 is clamp 2 watts) You can put the price of KWH.

 *		You may need to change the device type to this device handler after you pair it to your hub. I'm not sure why it doesn't always automatically pair using this handler even though the fingerprint matches...
 *		Also, you need to hit the button on the back of the HEM Gen5 a couple (two-three) times to get it to flash the red light on the front rapidly to ensure it's in inclusion mode. It isn't in the right mode if it's just flashing slow.
 *		Once the red light is solid, look in your things list and find it, could be just called z-wave, then change it's name and device type using the graph api to this custom handler to make it start working.
 *		The config with default intervals will send right away after you set the HEM Gen5 to this handler, please wait a few minutes before sending the config again or changing the intervals under preferences.
 *		The purpose of the config button is just really to resend the config with monitor interval prefs, as sometimes the config isn't fully applied, See the list of config items at the bottom of this code.
 *		You may need to send the config a few times, with about 2 minutes delay between to get all the properties to take. Not sure why-but if you look in the debug log in the graph api for this device you can see if they all applied.
 *		I had to unplug and replug my device after extensive testing and repeatedly setting the config over and over. Could be it works for you the first time, or you may need to pull power and re plug too in order to get all the Pole 1/2 data to show in the app.

 *		Issue 1:
 *			Not sure if this is the device handler or just a general SmartThings IOS App issue but sometimes when you set the preferences, it just spins in the app.
 *			If you are watching the log you can see it did set the preferences. Not sure why the app gets stuck, but just reload the app and should be fine.
 *		Issue 2:
 *			Not really a problem, more like a limitation; the clamps 1/2 data packets are sent to the ST hub based on monitor intervals for reports groups 1-3 which you can set in the device preferences.
 *			What this means is that, if you are paying attention to the tile data, you'll notice the center Total values don't quite work out to be the sum of Pole 1/2 values.
 *			This is simply because the base HEM data can be "polled" whereas the clamp 1/2 data is sent. And only sent on a schedule.

Yes. I mean, the code in my post is modified to work in HE.

correct, maybe you can merge the codes, I'm not a coder but at least this one works, I just mod smarttiles and I like it more than the HE dashboard, and I can see the power too.

Is there an easy way to get smarttiles working in HE? Not a big fan of the dashboard, to be honest.

I have been on the fence about SmartTiles mod. I do not like the HE dashboards at all, but they can be easily fixed with a good css patch by the devs. So I am hoping that happens soon. But as I reach the end of my home remodel, I will likely have to decide which way I am going to go, as I am also considering ceeating a native iOS app.

I thought you returned your Hubitat Elevation hub? Have you bought another, or are just considering it?

Well, smarttiles so far so good, is not exactly the same as actiontiles( I have a ST license) but I like it way better than the dashboard. I'm sure HE will make it better but for now I will stay with smarttiles. I almost finish my migration, so far, I'm happy, I will start to do multiple test, I saw my HE was getting slow... The meter is doing it's job, I will create an alert when it looses power, so I can look why is no power on the house, as a security measure. I have multiple battery backups for all the security stuff and internet.

Meter readings can spit out enormous amounts of data, be sure to tune the reporting parameters to suit your actual use case.
Ie, do i really need .05 changes in wattage every second?

The driver just let you change the refresh rate per second, I set it to 10 seconds, for now I believe everything is fine, well, I downgraded the hub firmware to 119 too.

Do you have this connected to your main terminals of the home or to the washer and dryer? If the terminals of the main home then how do I figure out the washer and dryer watts?

I have them connected to the power cords on the washer and dryer. You need to separate the individual wires and just clamp the live line--you cannot clamp the whole cord.

Bummer. I decided to return the AEON device and go with Sense. There is capabilities in ST that I plan on porting over to HE to contribute accordingly. Purchasing multiple HEMs doesn't seem financially feasible. After three devices being monitored (Washer/Dryer, Furnace/AC, Sump-Pump 1) I would be at the cost of a whole house system aka Sense. I have a co-worker who has this integrated into ST and creates child devices which get updated from a Pi.

Yeah when I could get the v1's 3 for $15, it was worth it. Not so much with the new versions!

I recently bought an IoTaWatt which can monitor 14 separate circuits very accurately. It is Open Source so i should eventually be able to integrate it with Hubitat. Should be a fun project. The developer has invested a ton of time into making this device very accurate and robust. While it’s not exactly cheap, it is very capable and I am happy to support a project like this.
