A couple of weeks ago my C-7 went missing after a firmware upgrade. "My error" however was inspiration for me to go ahead and migrate to a C-8 that I have had on hand for some time but because all was working smoothly, I had been avoiding. The migration was smooth and seemingly successful. Since I was now in a Hubitat frame of mind I ordered a C-8 Pro and migrated to that. My installation is modest. Only about 40 devices in total evenly split between between Z-Wave (Ring) and Zigbee (Hue Bulbs, Hue motion sensors and IKEA outlets and repeaters). The Hue devices are directly paired with the Hubitat.
Because things have been operating relatively glitch free I have avoided looking under the hood. That was true until now. I subsequently reviewed Z-Wave and Zigbee details and routing, etc.
I discovered an unknown in my Z-Wave setup which I was readily able to eliminate. I then discovered 4 unknowns in my Zigbee setup. I realize that since all was working I could leave them be. Alas I like a challenge on occasion and went "unknown" hunting using Dan Danache's Zigbee Map App, logging, etc.
It seems that the unknowns are related to the Hue Lamps which appear to be responsible for much of the routing versus the repeaters. Just because; I am planning to introduce a Hue Bridge and move the lamps to it.
Based on the docs and info I have read. It appears that I will have to remove the Hue Lamp pairings with the Hubitat in order to properly pair them with the Hue Bridge. Is this correct?
Assuming device removal from the Hubitat is required. I assume my rules will break unless I add a placeholder in the rule/s before removing the Lamps from the Hubitat.
It appears that the device will be available to re-add to the rule after pairing with the Hue Bridge. Is this correct assumption?
Any other gotchas or thoughts about which I should be aware.
Sounds good to me. But if not "experts" will be along shortly. My bulbs have always been on my Hue system but with the new integration I decided to move everything I could over. Sensors, button controllers and a few non philips items. This was possible before with community integration. I just couldn't be bothered. Placeholder is the way to go. Having said that I did not do that and I "broke" a lot of rules as a result. In case you were unaware there is a very cool feature in RM, "Find broken rules" I ran it and then quickly and easily found and fixed them.
Thank You. I am aware of broken rules feature.
Update. I fired up the Hue Bridge a short time ago. I could have sworn I had a spare Hue bulb around that was not paired with the Hubitat. It will show up later. I pulled a Hue Lamp that was paired directly with HE. I did not remove it from the Zigbee Device List. I used its serial number to successfully join Hue Bridge. I did a basic configure in HE's Bridge Integration App and installed it in a Dashboard Tile. The tile linked to the lamp that was paired with Hub did no longer worked. I edited device tile with Hue Bridge entry and voila. Need to dig deeper but at first glance it appears rules are intact and I just need to edit device entries. It's good to be retired.
As long as I break stuff. I will always have something to do. The least of my worries is broken HE rules. I am experimenting with locating my new hub for permanent install. Yesterday I put it on top of an out of the way bookshelf. This morning I received a text. Today was the day that the "out of the way" designation apparently expired. SO was apparently oblivious to the power strip draped across the chair in front of the bookcase when she reached for something and the HE came tumbling down. No harm.
Update: Adding a Hue Bridge to a Stable/Functioning Environment.
I opened a door and it is proving to be quite the journey (learning experience) on several fronts. This thread is no longer about integrating HE with a Hue Bridge. It has expanded into system(?) design, documentation and maintaining whatever infrastructure a user has built. All the while, I am learning about posting and labeling posts/topics appropriately.
My original post was concerning specifics.
Once I opened the door my journey expanded and is likely more appropriate for the lounge. Will figure that out later. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
