"Added flash switch action"

Hi! How would I use this to flash a switch from RM? I dont see an option for this

Does it allow you to "flash" any switch? (turn on, off, on)

I am trying to get my porch lights to flash to indicate when the garage alarm has been turned on/off

Thanks!

What release are you on?

I'm on the current build, I tested this new action and can see from the logs that it is sending the flash at 750ms to my caseta dimmer, but the dimmer doesn't do anything. Is there something else I should be doing to get this to work?

Sorry to OP for hijacking but I think this is probably the same question.

I was told a while back that caseta lights do not support this feature.

My ge zwave lights do work fine though.

I'm running 1.1.7.119

Just to make sure I understand this capability though, should I be able to "flash" any switch? Or doe the hardware have to support that capability? i.e its not a "virual flash"? If so, this may be why I can't use it

Yes, the driver and the device have to support it. Caséta hardware does not support it, but the driver does (because RA2 hardware does support it). Most Z-Wave and Zigbee devices support it.

It’s a fibaro in wall switch I have.

Would you be able to send a screenshot shot of where I select the option in RM?

You extend RM with a Custom command and then use the Custom command in a Rule.

Note: every dimmer and bulb is also a switch.

No need for this! Flash is a built-in action in RM.

See.. Learn something new every day!!

I dont seen the flash option... what am I missing?

Are you editing an old rule? I'm wondering if it's an older rule, maybe try creating a new one from scratch would give you the flash option.

Rule 2.5 and up. New rule, not old one, as @stephack says.
