A faster overview of my hub on the new Gui home page idea - add HPM to the overview icons.
HPM is one of those apps that shows 'updates available' when they are. I need to move to the apps page, and scan all the apps for any status.
Would be real nice to have next to HSM icon at the top of the page.
Yes, I recognize HPM is a user app. So this idea of course won't make it past the first laughs. But it would indeed be a good feature for me.
a project manager would at least say 'hmph' before dismissal. Maybe not HPM directly, but the ability to add app to Home page (possible an option in App heading section) so the dev can offer the ability. Then a choice in preference or device status that allows enable/disable.
I’m sure this is something users of HPM would find potentially useful (I would).
But as you’ve already noted, HPM is a user-developed app.
One that the staff have declined to incorporate into the hub firmware for understandable reasons that have been addressed in the past.
Giving it some kind of special recognition in the new UI would only serve to muddy the waters about whether it’s a custom add-on to the hub or baked into the hub platform itself.
So this is probably a non-starter from the staff’s perspective. But I certainly can’t speak for anyone but myself.
I doubt it would be a support nightmare to add customizable pills at the top of the page, for things like hpm, watchtower dashboards, etc.
A full blown customizable homepage-as-dashboard might be harder (although HE could push that complexity to users by providing all home UI elements as ez dashboard tiles)
There should always be the option to reset it to defaults
The more I think about this the less I like the idea. IMHO - HE is my hub, not my dashboard - I have tools for that. This goes down a slipper slope of HE becoming a dashboard. again. MHO. In fact, I'd like to see a setting for disable this 'Summary' as they've called it.
Edit - further thoughts - IMHO - please - IMHO - Mode? yes. HSM? yes. Items that are useful to running my hub. knowing how many lights are on? no. Climate? no. Update available? yes. Stuff that comes from Hub Info driver? BIG YES. then I can take that off my dashboard!
Another option is to have a new Driver Capability (or any other mechanism) that makes it possible for devices to push entries in the global notification area:
We can use this for stuff like:
Battery low notification
Device offline notification
Air purifier filter replace / other consumables notification
Any other situation where a device needs user intervention
I know you can use RM rules, Device Activity Check app, etc., but I'm not a big fan of mobile phone push notifications.
