AcuRite admits new app falls short, delays old app’s May shutdown to fix

Saw this… if only more companies did it though (delayed to make things right).

When companies introduce new apps (and I can understand changes to the underlying code and technologies) but leave out features the customers considered vital, it is very aggravating. One hitting me now is Tablo, but they have no plans to delay the new app or even confirm it will eventually have the features lacking compared to the Legacy app.

Yea my old Atlas station died, which I bought when the first were release. So, I figured since the old one worked so well (I give the atlas a lot of credit since it was in the Fla weather) I’d just get the new Optimus thinking that it would be as great as the Atlas. Boy was I wrong. Well the station and the display are wonderful, however, I found out a number of issues past that:

  1. The hub that all my weather sensors were connecting through did not work with the Optimus
  2. The old app did not work with the new Optimus
  3. the New app was 1/2 baked and completely crap compared to the old App. They apparently have moved from whatever designing the used to use to the Tuya backend. The app has been SLOWLY improving since its initial release. They just recently added the Acurite Hub into my app so I can at least see my old hub and sensors, but I can edit anything.
  4. I use the wunderground connector through the old hub and have to pay for the AcuriteNow+ in the new app. which wasn’t live for a long time, but was recently added, but signing up for it was a nightmare.
  5. Signing up and paying for the Acurite Now+ was easy, but I never got my “code” and had to contact support which took days to respond.
  6. After signing up for Acurite Now+, it ONLY applies to the Optimus and not the old hub, you have to pay for that separately.
  7. Notifications are hit and miss. Lightning strikes and custom notifications never come through in a timely manner. I’ve had some that come through days after the actual event.

It really sucks that they have screwed up with the new system instead of just working with what has been working so well for over a decade. I honestly won’t buy another AcuRite system again. When the one I have dies, I’ll be going to a different brand for sure. But that’s just the 2 cents from someone that has had AcuRite systems for almost 20 years.

I'm so glad I avoid all this by reading my AcuRite sensors and weather station directly with RTL_433
