$6.50 Zigbee Power Monitoring Plugs

I had a Zigbee Plug die on me a few days ago, so I ordered these on Amazon

They came today. Paired with the Tuya Zigbee Metering Plug driver.

I actually didn't need power monitoring, but these were cheaper than any non power monitoring plugs. Nice that @kkossev's driver allows for all the monitoring to be turned off, if you just need a plug.

I've never had a plug fail so horribly as the one that died. It burned a hole through side and pushed out an ungodly amount of smoke. I was fortunate to be in the room at the time.

I think I might be a little concerned if I had one plug kind of explode on me... Not sure I want to turn around and go to the cheapest plug I could find to replace it. :astonished::wink:

I would be looking for something that is UL certified, as a minimum requirement.

These plugs from what I see are ETL certified. Not sure I still would go with the cheapest after I had one explode. I only bring it up about the ETL against UL certification because I am going through a home renovation that I am doing myself so I buy everything first hand. Most electrical plugs and switches in the big box stores now are going to ETL certification over UL. What I can gather it is because it is cheaper to get the certification allowing the cost to stay down. UL certified items if you can find them are insanely more expensive, at least around here. Not arguing better or worse but the company I work for used to use UL as our registrar and I can say they are proud of what they do and you do pay for it. Lol.

Yes, they are. The one that burned was not, however,

I wouldn't say it exploded so much as it was doing a slow burn... I also wouldn't say it totally died all on it's own, a very small amount of water may have been splashed on it within the five minutes before that. By "glad I was in the room", I mean I'm glad I was still in the room a few minutes after said splash of water may have hit the socket.

OK, yes, I'm pretty sure I got a bit of water on it and caused the fail, but I actually never said it failed on its own, I was just impressed at how dramatic the fail was for such a small amount of water.

Actually, they are just on a good sale for the two pack, they cost more for each if you buy the four pack. Otherwise pretty much in range with others for price.

That old plug would still be switching along just fine if it weren't for the water :grimacing:

Ah, a human or several humans were involved...

Stick to your guns. There is no proof that an excessive amount of air contact humidity had any influence in the plugs ability to maintain internal control of its electrical charge nor cause it to have a heat induced gass off from its interaction to the plastic molecules.:rofl::rofl::rofl:

You will have to let us know how these hold up minus any water boarding.:rofl::rofl:
