3rd Reality Matter Plug M1

Ladies and Gentlemen: I bought a Matter M1 Matter plug to play with. I can't get it to hook up to my C-8, which, yes, has the latest updates.

What I did: At first I commissioned it with the 3rd Reality phone app, but then when I went to add the plug to Hubitat, Hubitat wanted me to use either Google, Apple Home, or Alexa. So, I did a factory reset, and commissioned it with Alexa. It runs fine IN Alexa. I then got the new 11-digit code for "add to other devices", and, with that I tried getting the plug to pair. It won't pair.

The C-8 and M1 are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Your thoughts?

Did you get the pairing code from Alexa or the 3R app when trying to pair with Hubitat after pairing to Alexa? I’ve got the 3R nightlights and just paired directly from the 3R app to Hubitat by having the 3R app generate a Matter code.

I'll try a factory reset, then get the pairing code from the 3R app. I got mine from the Alexa app after a factory reset, because the pop-up on Hubitat gave that, along with Apple Home and Google as choices to get a code. Thanks very much for the idea.

Nope. Here is what I did. 1) factory reset. 2) commissioned with latest Android version of 3R's app. 3) The plug is maybe 10 feet (3m or so) from the Hubitat hub. 4) Launched what needed to be launched in the Hubitat add device, added the generated pairing code well within the three minute allowance. 5) Didn't pair.

Strange. What is your router setup at home?

I have a TP-Link router dedicated to all of my home automation to keep it isolated from my computer / everything else network. Everything in the Hubitat runs fine through it via Alexa. My only cloud-based stuff are a Wyze robotic vac and a MyQ garage door opener. Everything else is either Zigbee or Lutron.

Note that the plug was able to latch right into Alexa without a hitch. Does my C-8 need a border router or some such in order for things to work? I bought the plug as an experiment to try out Matter so it is no big deal if it doesn't work; I can just set it aside.

It doesn’t need a boarder router. That’s only for Matter via Thread devices. Was there an update for the plugs in the 3R app? Outside of that, I’m not sure why they won’t connect.

I will tinker further as time allows, but, for the time being I will stick with Zigbee devices. My present residence is a mix of Zigbee and Lutron and Hue. In all likelihood, my next house will all be on protocols that Hubitat C-8s can handle without other gear needed.

I have tinkered further. I now have the TR Matter plug visibie in Hubitat, and have tested it with a simple on / off routine.

How I Got it Set Up: I unplugged it for a while. I plugged it back in, the 3rd Reality Mobile "saw it", and I got a pairing code, and successfully added it to Hubitat, all within about 60 seconds.

Remaining Question: This plug is supposed to do energy monitoring. I see no provision in the Device screen to do this. Any idea how it is done, if indeed it can be? Aside from that, my "case" here is solved, but will not mark it being so until I know if there is a means to read the energy readings in Hubitat.

Thanks everyone!

Hubitat will need to update it's Matter standard to 1.3 before you will see energy monitoring. Right now, you'll only get on/off commands until that happens.

Additionally, the driver might need to be updated too (or a new one created that contains both on/off and energy monitoring).
