240v adapters

Here’s an odd one.
I just moved from kl to bkk.
I have some 240 zwave devices that are connected to line , neutral and power. Power in kl is the same as bkk. 240 50 hz.

I bought a bunch adapters but they are only 2 prong ( no separate ground pin ) where as when I wired these I know I connected power neutral and ground.
Should I wait till I get the right adapter before plugging in?
Cheers.

l got lost between "connected to the line, neutral and power," and the mention of prongs. Wouldn't wired adapters have wires in and wires out? If so, just connect the ground wire around the adapter back to ground wire before the adapter.

Maybe was clear for me
The zwave devices have a line, neutral and ground.
The adapters to connect a uk plug to a Thai plug don’t have the ground. At least the ones I bought. Just thinking I might wait till I can buy adapters that have the 3 prongs ( with the ground ) before I connect.
I was connecting up some Sylvaina zigbee light strips I had. I think the power bricked them. No matter what I do. Can’t get to factory reset ( blinking lights ). So might be better safe on the other devices and just wait till I can buy 3 prong plugs.

The adapters just convert the plug configuration. Uk and Thailand have different plugs but the same power ( 240 / 50 hz). I’m sure there are adapters out there with the this configuration with the ground. But not on Lazada where I bought them !

Also confused about the relationship between the mains wired z-wave devices the OP installed and the devices to be plugged into the receptacles via a two-prong adapter.

What are you plugging into these receptacles?

Are the receptacles the z-wave devices you installed? Or did that refer to some other devices?

This is what you plugged in with your two prong adapter?

Lack of a grounding pin shouldn’t brick your LED strips, if the power supply was otherwise rated for what’s coming from the wiring in the walls, sounds like it was?

Those can be problematic, power cycling the ZigBee module by unplugging/plugging the little connector is a PITA.

Worst case you might want to make use of some sort of adapter with a switch to go between the power brick and the strip's controller.

e.g. uxcell DC 12V Inline Rocker On/Off Switch with 5.5 x 2.1mm DC Jack Male to Female Power Cable for LED Strip Light CCTV Camera Black

Sorry. Let me further explain
I made an extension cord using a zwave relay.
The power input is a uk style male plug with 3 prongs. Power. Neutral and ground is connected to a zwave relay. The output is sent to a uk style 3 prong outlet. Power ground and neutral.

The outlets in Thailand are also 3 plug but a different style than the UK. I ordered some adapters so I can plug the device in to the outlets here in Thailand. But the adapters I ordered were only 2 prong. So no dedicated ground.

My initial question was how will the relay (which has a ground), react if connected to mains with no ground. Don’t want to fry my relay.

The other question about the lights was just a comment about the potential shitty power here. I’ve had some 24v zigbee sylvania light strips installed in my condo in KL for the last 3 years. I removed them and brought them with me to Thailand. When I plugged them in they were not connecting to my hub so I tried the standard on / off * 5 power cycles so I could reset and rejoin them. I couldn’t get the lights to reset. I was unplugging the barrel connector as the 24v power supplied on 240v seem to store a lot energy and turn off slowly.
I then tried a new set of lights. New ps and zigbee comtroller. Same thing. So was really a comment about the power here.
The Power supply is 110-240. 50/60 hz rated.

Would have to make one ! That Sylvaina has a weather proof 2 prong barrel connector. But. Way easier to insert : remove that vs pushing in and pulling out the plug. And instant power off when pulling the barrel plug out. Those 24v supplies take half a sec to fully drain the energy.
But I think I bricked both of them. After doing some internet searches looks like the chip won’t reset. It’s a solid blue when I plug in.

I have a run of about 50 or 60 feet I wanted to do. Those Sylvaina ones are perfect as you can run up to 80 feet with the 24 v system. But. I have some govee Christmas lights that’ll do the trick. Will have to rely on internet connectivity to HE vs local but it’ll work.

It won’t react at all, and under normal circumstances you wouldn’t know there’s a difference because the ground wire carries no current.

But defeating a ground pin introduces safety concerns if, for example, you plug in a toaster that happens to have a live wire loose inside and comes in contact with the (metal) case.

Normally that kind of fault would, via the ground wire, trip the circuit breaker. But not if the ground pin was disconnected at the outlet by an adapter.

Ah yes the Sylvania Gardenspots, an even bigger PITA. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Well I guess the good news is that you can replace the controller with something more universally compatible now.

24V Zigbee (RGB?) waterproof (or enclosure?).
Gledopto or BTF-LIGHTING are pretty popular here.

Sounds safe enough to get them set up and make sure they are working. Most of my furniture is going to be in a sea container for 2 months so really won’t be using them until my stuff arrives anyway. But I’ll find the proper adapters that has the ground pin. Until I can rewire the plug to the proper Thai one.
Appreciate the replies.
Cheers.
