This is the second case for this recently.
Unable to force remove old Zwave device if the DNI was edited and is not a standard Zwave node ID format. User confirmed after fixing the DNI they could force remove.
Could you explain this a bit more I don't know what valid but "unused" node number.
Look at the DNI, it needs to be a two character hex string. If you have edited it at all, it could be something other than that. If you need to change it just look at your z-wave details and pick something not in use, like CC, or FF.
Apparently there is a bug in the latest platform that breaks the force remove if the DNI is totally invalid @gopher.ny

I haven't seen that option, so I dug into it, and it seems I get a 500 error when it checks the delete status endpoint (/device/zwave/deleteStatus/406):

I tried rebooting and looking through the logs for related errors, but I haven't found anything that stands out.
