Weird problem occurring and I can not find any discussion of it, so presenting it here.
Of late, the last few weeks, typically in the morning, I'll request that a switch turn on and I'll either get nothing or there will be a delay of 30 seconds or so.
In the past I've had phantom nodes appear, but nothing seems amiss with Zwave now. But for the fact that when I go to Zwave details the C8 hub is in the process of rebuilding. As soon as I end that process everything responds appropriately.
For the life of me I can't figure out why this is happening.
What do you mean by this, what is the message or other indication you see that leads you to believe the hub is "rebuilding?" A screen cap of what you are seeting would be most useful.
Z-Wave devices will change routing in some cases, but that's an individual device action based on its connection to the hub. There isn't any automated Z-Wave "rebuilding" action on the hub.
Is it possible you have set a nightly backup for around the same time you are trying to control your devices? Settings>Backup and Restore:
you may want to goto the web interface for this, but what does live logging say for the hub device. if it looks like this, then yes zwave is doing a rebuild. If you see “Finished Z-Wave network rebuild”, followed by “Starting Z-Wave network rebuild” then it is indeed looping.
Looping or not, if this is the case there maybe value in shutting down the hub and removing power to the hub for a few sec to help the zwave radio chill out.
Thanks for the thorough response. No misbehaving this morning, but logs no doubt a good thought. I've not done much with logging, which might explain why I can't find hub to filter in on.
But, I'll try a power down and see if there's any change in behavior.
Shut down/pull power/wait 30s/power up. That cures many ills related to odd/unexplained radio behavior.
After you do that you should probably also do a restart w/database rebuild for good measure. Choose Settings>Reboot, choose advanced options in the reboot dialog, choose rebuild database, and let 'er rip. That will clear out any oddities in your hub's database that might have built up.
When one experiences problems w/their Z-Wave devices responding slowly/not responding, trying a rebuild on specific devices involved may help. If things are working normally, nothing to do. Usually kind of an "if it ain't broke, no need to fix it" situation.
