As many of you know and are sick of helping me with, I’ve switched from ST to HE and flipped out my zwave devices to zwave+. Through the process I’ve been trying to make my zwave mesh more redundant.
Is there a way to tell the potential range on a device? I had to use one of these for a tight space:
both Zooz & Dome made plugs in the same format. I have 2 and I'm very happy with them. I'd GUESS that due to the plug's tiny size(i love the format), the antenna is likely small, so range is probably less than the Iris plug 3210-L or the Aeotec range extender. With HE I've found you need the best repeaters possible, HE antennas are weak, in my experience, and compared to ST, Lightify, Xiaomi Hub, Iris, Hue & Securifi. However HE's capabilities more than makeup for it, plus we want a mesh to keep communications solid.
I don't know about the quality of the chinese version, but aaiyar appears to have not had a good experience, so I'd go off of that.
The Neo Coolcam version is the same as the Dome / Zooz version (probably better to state the Dome/Zooz versions are white label versions of the Neo Coolcam plug). I forgot to mention - I also had a Zooz version of that miniplug, which also failed after about a year. And, it is of interest that Zooz stopped selling them.
I have a fear of running out of outlets probably because this house was built in the 60's and the contractor must have thought candles were cool. I have no neutral wire and only one outlet per room. When we bought the house it only had one outlet in the garage So I've been trying to use powered switches instead of pure repeaters. I do have some dark spot though and if the repeater-only was better would give in.
Man for anyone looking at these or this post - nothing truer could be said. Of the four that I have, they all operate at 9.6kbs unless they are right by the hub and I mean right by it. I have one closer than where I paired it but with a pane of glass in between... 100kbs down to 9.6 just like that. Form factor is the only thing going for it but I worry if I see anything trying to use it as a repeater.
