Zooz ZSE42 XS water sensor

I've researched on this site extensionally and still can't get this sensor to pair. I've tried both manual and smart start. Also put sensor into factory reset and z-wave exclusion. I've also tried pairing in the same room as HE which is technically not suggested as best practice. I have 2 other Z's running OK, A plug and siren. I just bought this sensor so if it's a real issue pairing I can return and look for something zigbee. Any suggestions? thanks

I have 15 in service. For a while now.

What model hub do you have? If 8-Pro, are you on ZIP or JS for z-wave?

Can you post a screenshot of your entire table on Z-Wave Details page (Settings -> Z-Wave Details)... If you have an 8-Pro, also include the info above the table on that page - that's where we can see if you're on JS or ZIP.

8-pro and it's running ZIP since it gives me option for JS. I have 2 devices. I'm not sure how to cut/paste images so hope this makes sense.

I also have a large number of these in service - without a hitch.
They may be paired in 2 ways:

  1. as a zwave LR device - which means that it is directly attached to the hub
  2. as a regular zwave device - which means that it is used in a "mesh" way
I attached all of mine as zwave LR, which also means that it must be paired via startsmart.
I have attached some while using ZipGateway and some with ZwaveJS. No problems either way.

Perhaps your zwave network is having some issues.
Do you have any zwave ghosts?
Do you have any zwave devices which are not responding?
Do you have any zwave devices with many route changes?
Have you tried the "Huibitat Zwave Mesh Details" program from HPM to get a good understanding of your zwave mesh?
What about using the Zwave Details screen, to see if any devices have unexpectedly 0 messages? (they may be not working)

I'm new with Zwave and not sure about ghosts and yes, I'm having issues. I only have 2 devices so far and they are not responding. An outlet plug and siren. My plan was to start with them in a mesh before I added the water sensors around the house.

I'd like to attach as zwave LR and tried via startsmart but it never let me go beyond the initial scan screen. It would say it's added but none of the 5 digit data was filled in. It felt like it started correctly but didn't let me finish.

I'll research your suggestion about trying HE Zwave mesh details via HPM program. Never heard of it before.

Here's my details screen.

OK. Let's start with some basics.

  1. If you are installing your devices (even the LR devices) in mesh mode, start with the devices that are physically close to the Hub and work outwards - one at a time.
  2. Check the Zwave settings page for ghosts, and when/if you encounter one, stop adding devices and deal with the ghost issue. One of the easiest ways of discerning that a device is a ghost is when you see on the Zwave settings page an entry that doesn't have a name or that doesn't have a route. (The Zwave settings page is your friend!). If you have a ghost, and you are using ZwaveJS, then you may see under the actions column a remove button. Use it to get rid of ghosts. If not, then you have to use the (in)famous @danabw PDF document to get rid of ghosts.
Please note: in order to get your zwave radio to properly reset, you have to shutdown the Hub, wait with the power off for at leat 10-30 seconds, and then turn it back on again.
  3. On the following screenshot, from my Zwave settings page (on a C8), you can see that I'm running ZwaveJS not Zwave Zipgateway (called legacy):
  4. To be frank, I've never changed the LR channel from the default setting (auto). Could this be a source of your frustrations with LR and startsmart?

Many thanks for the insights. I followed all your suggestions and everything works. regards,
