Just got two of them. Haven't cranked them up yet.
Impressive is that it uses one common cr2032 battery.
It's small!
It'd be awesome if it'd have a little more range than the zigbee sensor I'm currently using at the gate, which just can't quite get the job done.
I got a "waterproof" case for it - they're out of stock, so thanks @jtp10181 !
I'm not exactly sure how it works, lol.
There are no screws holding down the cover itself, which just appears to be fit up against a gasket seal. It was hard to pry the cover off.
I'm reluctant to push the sensor into it right now, since the fit is very tight and I'm not sure I'll easily be able to pry it out.
I'll have to look for some a manual.
Anyway, first impressions are good! Now let's start 'er up.
I just saw that.
I did just now put the sensor in the case.
It's quite form fitting.
I had to use a knife to pry it out, lol, but not too bad.
I have to figure out a way to mount it on my farm gate.
The last method involved wire ties.
This case seems to prefer to be screwed down on a flat surface, perhaps aiding the seal.
The last sensor I just wrapped in Saran wrap and wrapped that with Scotch tape, for toughness.
Seems to work. Easy to remove.
To change batteries on this case, the little screws have to be removed.
I'm a little ambivalent about it.
It looks good though.
@jtp10181 , or @JasonJoel , which driver to use?
I've yet to read the manual for all the parameters.
I just use the community driver and it works good. There is really not much for settings. I had used the community one at some point but switched back.
Well, it looks like the rain may be stopping for a while, so maybe I'll get to check out the range later.
Still have to figure out a way to mount it on the gate. I'm installing an operator on it, so maybe that could get involved. The latch end of the gate can get 'flakey' with movement, snow/ice, etc.
I was just now checking out www.thesmartesthouse.com site, and it looks like the weatherproof housings are now back in stock. At least they took my order for a couple more. Interestingly, they now take PayPal, so that'll expedite my spending of even more money on this crap.
Well, as much as I wanted it to work, it has about the same range as the zigbee contact I was using. I'll keep trying for a while, but I guess I'll be hardwiring a contact sensor.
