I now have two of these one in use on a bathroom door. Second one just to see if something was wrong with my first one.

Right now I have the new device sitting in front of me. Door close magnet across my desk. When I put them together it reports closed, then I move them apart, open. Perfect. Then I wait a few hours and then they report closed. Nothing has happened. They just report closed for whatever reason. Its been closed for the entire day yet the magnet is across my desk. The one in the bathroom does the exact same thing.

I'm looking for suggestions here.

You suspect something other than your magnetic personality?

What do the device logs say - do they confirm a close event occured? Is the open-back-to-closed timing of the mysterious closes consistent between the 2 devices?

I have 3 of these and have never seen umprompted state-change behavior from any of them, but they are all admittedly closed 98% of the time (since they're all on closets that we typically go quickly in-&-out of).

I have notification rules on all 3 that tell me if any have been open 30 minutes, and I know those all work.

I toggled it off and on a few times at 7:24am. Last time I touched it, it shows.

Device Log shows open 7:24am - This was me. I put it across from my desk away from everything.
9:28 am Battery 100%
9:28 am contact closed.

Perhaps its related to the battery check?

I suspect what is happening is the device reports a state change but the hub misses it. I have a Zen41 that fails to register on hubitat once in a while. If I open and close the door again, the status is corrected. Then there is the Zen ZSE11 multi sensor in the garage which does not cause hubitat to show motion inactive less than every time. But going out there and back then will show inactive. They are connected using S2 with LR enabled. I don't know enough about z-wave protocol for those one way devices to know if there is a hand shake or not. Like in IP. UDP or TCP.
