So jumped ship from Smartthings to Hubitat C8 with a new home so clean slate.
I have spent several hours trying to get my first toggle dimmer added, Zooz Zen74. It's within a plastic wall box and around 8 feet away from the hub, and being the first (and only) device on my "mesh". Note I have factory reset the switch, included, excluded, and reset mesh on the Hubitat also innumerable times overnight.
Anyway cut a long story short I have managed to add the device, kind of.
When I login to my hubitat, settings-> z-wave details, I see the device as a generic_type_switch_multilevel, with a route of 01->07 40 kpbs. I take that as I have finally managed to get it added to my zwave "mesh"
Problem is that when I go to my hub -> devices there is no entry. Not even a generic device.
I also looked at compatible list and note the Zooz Zen74 is listed as a switch, it's not, it's a dimmer. To be honest I don't care about the dimming function anymore - I was hoping that I just had to work out how to add a device driver or something but that's obviously not the case.
I posted on reddit and was advised to come here - the only additional word of advise I got was to try and install the community drivers rather than factory - that I haven't worked out (I got Hubitat Package Manager but cannot find a json URL to point it too for the Zen74)
I really don't know where to go now. Any advice would be appreciated.
If you have HPM installed then open it and click the first button install a new package.
That will open up another page and do a keyword search for Zooz.
You will see several options, one lists your ZEN74 specifically. Select it and it will install the drivers.
Then on the device page for the Zen74 you paired, under device information, click the type drop down and a whole bunch of options will be listed. Scroll down to the user section and select the Zen74 driver.
Welcome to the Hubitat community, sorry to see you are having troubles with your first device.
This won't work if...
You probably have an incompletely paired device. Please post a screenshot of your Z-wave details page where you saw those columns of the route and speed and so on.
If the forum doesn't let you post screenshots (for spam blocking of new users), you can click and join the Owner Group here: Hub owners - Hubitat
Thank you for the prompt response. I downloaded/installed the correct driver, so that is progress thank you.
Just for safety I factory reset and re-added the device. Now it is included, Node 0x08, is ok so got as far as I did before.
Its the last step in your paragraph that I cannot complete ; The device is not listed in my Hub ->Devices so I cannot drop it down - the only entry is my cell phone.
As an aside, one part of the process I have not seen documented but in order to SmartStart add the device I had to change to "SmartStart Boot Mode". I have tried updating to S2 Boot mode. That doesn't seem to make any difference.
Note I have tried without using smartstart in case that was throwing a curveball also. That makes no difference to the end result.
Yep, see that Discover button, that is indicating that the device isn't paired properly. This might take a few steps to fix.
Apologies in advance, I wish I had time to walk you through some things to try to remedy this. I am leaving for work as we speak and I just happened to see this post at the top of the list when I was browsing.
Sorry I wasn't much help.
Hopefully someone will see this soon and give you a hand.
Your device is not paired, that is what is referred to as a ghost. You need to remove that. I can't remember which option is best to try and remove it. Hopefully you won't need a Z-Stick.
Perhaps someone else can chime in, but what you want is a remove option listed under status. You can click the refresh and the discover and it may take a few tries. Once you see remove then start clicking that. Again it can take a few tries, if I remember right. I think if you can kill power to the switch it will help.
When you get back to trying to pair it again I would just use the normal add device process. Add Device > Add Z-wave Device. From there you can include and exclude device. First you want to exclude the device. Do not try to include it until you can get it to exclude successfully. Also IMO I would just include it without security.
I deleted the smartstart entry first of all
then performed a factory reset on the dimmer - thats easy enough (hold down 10 seconds then 5 quick toggles down).
Next under settings->Z-wave details I did a Reset Z-Wave Radio
Just for good measure I performed another factory reset on the device.
Then Devices->Add Device->Z-Wave->Start Z-Wave Inclusion, kicked off on toggle (3 quick ups). The dimmer LED reports it is communicating (blue LED) then it does 3 quick flashes of red or green (my color sight is shot) after about 20 seconds and then goes out. Eventually when the Inclusion times out on the hub I get the "Looks like you are having trouble including your device. Please exclude it or perform a factory reset on the device before attempting to include it again... " message.
Then it doesn't even appear on my Z-Wave Radio Devices list.
So Factory Reset yet again.
I tried re-adding smartstart (scanning) but with all the security options off, back to where I was before.
Factory Reset Device, Reset Z-Wave Radio on hub, Factory Reset Device.
Tried Smartstart another way by entering the 35+DSK code and turning off all the security before saving and that just says "not included, pending". Then checked the Grant Key "Security 0 - Unauthenticated" to on (I had unchecked the default Security 2 Class 0 and 1 boxes leaving all unchecked) - that right away put me into included mode.
However when I go back to the Zwave details I am now in this state;
That procedure seems correct. I have a few Zooz toggle switches, Zen73s, they include the same way. Did not have any issues they paired up first try. Did you try doing a Z-wave exclusion first? Make sure after exclusion you get the message unknown Z-wave device excluded. If you can't get it to exclude then no need to try and include it. If your only 8' from device and it being a C8 I would think signal strength is not an issue.
Before you start the pairing process look at your z-wave details and make sure that entry you have posted a screen shot of is gone. Since you only have one device just resetting the Z-wave radio is the easiest way to get rid of it.
You are correct - every time I have started the inclusion process by whatever method I have checked to ensure there is no entry in the Settings->Z-Wave Details page. And yes, Factory reset of the switch and Z-wave radio reset seems to be reliably removing the entry.
Finally got it added after another few hours of unproductive time
Removed the device, reset z-wave and for the sheer hell out of it - given I have spent hours on this - I took a leaf out of the book of Windows admins and powercycled the hub'. I read something you shouldn't really reboot hubitat at whim but had nothing to lose.
