Zooz Zen30 + Zen51 direct association

It was purchased recently and has hardware version 4.

It is called "Apartment Light" (Zen30) and is controlling "Apartment Relay Parent" (Zen 52)

Here is the zwave details and topology. Hub is on 2.3.9.193 uptime of 5d 22h 21m 15s

Nothing really jumps out at me for those devices. The stats on the two problem devices seems to indicate they should be quick.

Looks like many of the basement devices are struggling though, based on RTT. Sometimes when you get devices like that it can bog the entire mesh down. A lot of them are trying to route through the basement cans. Is there anywhere you could put a solid repeater down there? Either a smart plug or something like the Zooz ZAC38 maybe? Assuming your hub is on the main floor, may even work best with a repeater in the ceiling, or low down on the main floor directly above the devices.

If its a C8 hub are the antennas oriented vertically (up or down is ok).

As a followup to this I ended up experimenting with the following:

  • Cleaned up the ZWave network ghosts. In 2 cases I needed the UZB stick to remove stubborn nodes - Helped a LITTLE
  • Replaced the Double Switch with Lutron Pico Remotes in wall. HELPED A LOT. Basically instant switching which was the goal
  • Implemented jtp10181 multi-channel zwave tweaker. Also HELPED A LOT. Also basically instant switching and has the benefit of working when the hub is down

I think part of the issue with this zen30 switch is that the dimmer has lag...presumably to properly interpret hold events. Despite configuring this to have "instant on" / "instant off", I think it still carries lag. The pico remotes are instantaneous, the device associations also must bypass this lag and are instantaneous.

Overall, I love the ZEN52 dual relay and it solved my DC Fan with receiver/remote issues. For switching I would likely go in-wall PICO remote if I did it all over. The Double Switch with Tweaker plugin is acceptable but is a little "mushy" -- I don't love the tactile response.

The last I heard, for Zooz at least, the hub must be turned on, ie, z-wave radio still on, for the associations to work fast.
