I just bought a Zooz ZEN15 switch, more to provide some form of energy monitoring for a sump pump in my basement rather than operate as a switch. In fact I'd prefer to disable the switching so it can't be accidentally turned off, since I really never want the pump in an off state. I think that's possible on the newest firmware version, and it looks like the firmware on the switch I purchased registers as 1.5.
I had no major issues getting the switch included as an HE device. However I'm noticing that the response time for reporting power, current, etc. seems rather slow. Have others noticed this? I've set the power reporting interval, for example, to a few seconds, but I find there's a long delay in actually reporting that the switch has a load, For a pump that may only (for the most part) be on for short bursts, I'm not so sure that would work for my intended purpose. Perhaps I'm not configuring the other setting correctly. Also, does a setting like "Power Report Value Change" supersede the "Power Reporting Interval"? For example I'm assuming if I set the value change to 10 W, that change would only be reported at the set reporting interval, correct?
I am fairly certain that you get a report for each setting you choose. If you select only wattage, that is the only report. If you have both wattage and percent change, you get two reports. All three if you add interval.
In fact, selecting too many things or too low on one or more of these can spam the hub with power reports and slow the hub. Worst case if you have multiple of these you can take down the whole hub, or at least the Zwave radio, until you reboot.
So I would turn on only what you want, probably wattage would be most appropriate. And see what the wattage is when running and tune the wattage change report to be slightly less than the running watts.
Thanks! I think that was the issue. Having it only report power change now gives very quick response.

I am looking to get a Zen15 to monitor my sump pump as well. Are you able to catch the amp readings on the sump? I've read that as a pump/motor start to wear out, the initial load to start the pump will become higher and I am hoping to use that as a warning. I am of course also wanting to know if the pump has not run in the expected interval.
Can you tell me if you are able to see the initial load numbers? Ideally it would be the peak and then non-peak amps per sump cycle.
Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure if that's quite possible, although someone else more knowledgeable on the forum may know how better to accomplish this. I think it comes down to how often you have the device report it's state, and you'd need it to be reporting continuously. I have mine set up to only report when the power exceeds 400W, which it will exceed to power my sump pump. When the pump turns on I'll then see two to three events registered over the span of a few seconds with power readings between roughly 500W and 0W as the pump turns on and then off.
Ok, interesting. Yeah, I'm not really an expert on electricity. Thank you for the response though!
