Zooz ZEN04 Smart Plug + Alexa

Hi all,

I've been upgrading different smart components from Wifi-based to Zooz/Hubitat z-wave stuff. Previously, my Feit wifi smart plugs worked seemlessly with my Alexa setup. I could give a simple voice command to tell her to turn something on and she'd activate the plug to deliver power.

I have since removed the Feit smart plugs and replaced with a couple Zooz ZEN04 plugs. They're added all fine to Hubitat, I have @jtp10181 's driver installed and am able to control them and everything, but I can't get them to show up in Alexa at all (the Amazon Echo Skill app is added and enabled. I'm able to control through voice commands other devices like light bulbs just fine). Anyone know if specifically these plugs are incapable of being recognized in Alexa for some reason? (which would be a bummer, I have no other use for the Zooz plugs since the wifi ones were working great, just wanted to get things off wifi and under local control) And if they can't be, anyone know some clever hack or workaround to get a voice command to Alexa to still somehow result in getting the Zooz plugs activated?

Did you go into the Alexa/Amazon app (on Hubitat) and enable them to be shared? When you first set it up you select what devices to be shared, anything new you add, you have to add it to the list. Then Alexa should pick it up within a few seconds of pressing Done on the app.

Yep, I checked that initially and made sure to toggle all of them. But even after that and doing several more Discovery's in Alexa, they still don't show up in the Alexa app.

Just tested mine, checked it in the app, pressed done, got the spinning wheel for a minute and as soon as it was done the Alexa app notified me it discovered a new device, ZEN04.

Anything look weird?

No everything looks fine to me. Maybe try powering down the hub and restart it?
Can you control the other devices via Alexa still?

Could also try removing the device from the Amazon app on Hubitat, press done. Let it sync, maybe do a discover on Alexa to make sure it gets the hint. Then go back and add it back again?

Yeah I've always had full functionality of both the Echo Dots themselves and the Wiz bulbs through Alexa voice commands.

Done. Removed from the Amazon Alexa app in Hubitat, hit done, Even rebooted the hub. Did a discovery. Went back in to the Amazon Alexa app in Hubitat, checked the boxes on both plugs and the ZEN34 switch, hit Update and Done. Even rebooted the hub again. After reboot, ran an Alexa discovery, and still can't find anything. I also tried everything with the Zooz driver in case it was something with yours, but same result regardless of which was selected in the dropdown menu. I think the only thing left at this point is to remove them entirely and try to reinclude them. I still keep coming back to thinking its weird that I couldn't get to them to appear through the manual inclusion and could only get anything through the Smart Start thing (even though I have no idea whether anything in there could even make a difference, I'm just trying to identify any potential speedbumps)

Isnt Wiz integrated directly to Alexa?
Can you control other devices via Hubitat?
Did you install the Hubitat Alexa skill and pair it to your hub?

That's a good point actually. Yeah my Wiz is integrated directly to Alexa. I guess I haven't confirmed through other means that Alexa does actually control Hubitat devices specifically, which will be a little more tricky to do because the only devices I have thus far controlled with Alexa commands that are integrated into Hubitat are ones that also integrate directly with Alexa herself. The only Hubitat devices I have are Zooz switches, now the Zooz plugs, and Wiz bulbs. I'm trying to run a discovery specifically for a Switch, not for a Plug, but since Zooz doesn't show up in the list of brands I've had to select "Other" and select Z-wave, then Discover, but nothing comes up in discovery for the switches either, not just the plugs.

Yeah I activated the skill in Alexa awhile back and linked it to my account.

Ok so I got it fixed. What ended up fixing it was disabling/deleting the Hubitat skill out of Alexa completely, then re-enabling it and re-linking it to my account. I'm not sure what caused a hang up there, but that's what did it. The plugs and switches are both in Alexa now.

:+1:
That was going to be my next suggestion based on the response to my question.
