Zooz Zen 30 not registering physical off unless dimmed first

I would greatly appreciate any advice to help me resolve a long-standing annoyance with several of my Zooz Zen 30 double switches. Occasionally, they will refuse to register me physically tapping off until I first dim the switch. As soon as I dim the switch, even the slightest amount, I can always turn it off in a single press. I have no idea what is causing it. I've generally been able to resolve my issues through other people's posts on this forum, but my Google-fu has been soundly defeated on this one.

I took the time to video this when it happened this morning, but I can't upload this to the forum. I then checked the logs, and it recognized me turning it on, dimming it, and then turning it off. It did not register the downward taps between turning it on and dimming it. Device details and logs are in the images below.

I'm running a C8-Pro on Platform Version 2.5.0.123. The switches are operating on the Zooz ZEN30 Double Switch driver by jtp10181 (v 2.0.2). Device info in the image below.

I am not able to observe this behavior with the three ZEN30 double-switches that I have. There are two differences between our setups. First, as indicated by the device data pasted below, all three of my switches are much older than yours. And second, they are using the built-in "Zooz Double Switch" driver.

While I am not certain it would fix what you are seeing, there is a firmware update for this switch to 3.30.

Firmware: 3.30

  • Fixed a bug: With Parameter 28 set to disabled (Dimmer Scene Control - Off), after turning the lights on with a single click (upper paddle), the single click to turn off the lights (lower paddle) no longer worked.
  • Fixed a bug: Z-Wave command now respects the custom brightness level set for single tap (parameters 18 and 23), instead of restoring the last brightness level.
