Zooz dimmer switch - 3way with dumb switch with no load

I know the Zooz dimmer can be used without anything connected to the load, making it just a button device. I also know you can wire it in 3way with a dumb paddle switch.

But can you do both at the same time? In other words, if I wire it 3way with the dumb paddle switch, does turning that switch on/off trigger the button presses on the Zooz, or would it only control a load (if one is connected)?

Trying to avoid replacing the dumb paddle switch with another Zooz, if I can.

The 3-way can only change the on/off/dimmer state and does not activate any of the button events. This may work depending on what you want to do exactly.

The Zooz dimmer will control a couple table lamps (Hue bulb) and a Hue strip via Hubitat rules rather than direct load.

Will Hubitat detect the on/off changes that are initiated by the dumb switch in 3way, so that I could write rules to control the bulbs/strip?

That's all I want. Turn on the dumb switch, Hue bulbs turn on. Turn off the dumb switch, Hue bulbs turn off.

So I had a similar condition where i used a Zen74 to control Wiz connected bulb in a lamp and then I had a 3 way switch use to control the circuit. After 6 months it failed and i had a rather lengthy discussion with Zooz Support. Simply put using the switches in Smartbulb mode and using the 3-way function is not a recommended or supported configuration.

I was told with no ambiguity that if i wanted to use the switch in a 3-way i should not use it in smartbulb mode. If i wanted to control the smart bulb device from two locations i should use a switch in a virtual switch mode in place of the 3-way setup.

It has something to do with detecting load on the circuit. I wouldn't suggest doing this after my experience.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll just go the safe route and replace the dumb switch with another Zooz.

This may help as well. It is a good support article that really points out what switch you should have where.
