IIRC, back in the C3-4 era, there was a sensor that could sense an indicator light. I've read some threads about HE light sensors but I doubt ambient light sensors would work. I'd like to monitor a single red led on a circuit board in an equipment enclosure.
Don't recall any ZigBee, but HomeSeer used to make a Z-Wave version.
SO also not zigbee but i used to use the aeotec multisensor 5 or 6 at the time to detect when the LED turned on on the Apple TV. It did need to be usb powered to respond fast enough for the 1-2 lux difference and had to be matched to the led w/ the lux sensor in the corner. No, it didn’t look nice.
I tried a few other lux sensors but i found the aeotec’s were the only lux sensor that responded consistently to low Lux changes. The aeotec multisensor 7 and 8 are also excellent if you are ok with zwave.
I wanted something like this when setting up monitoring for my laundry machines a few years back. I ended up going with a custom raspberry pi solution because I couldn’t find a z-device other than that one from homeseer.
