Hello.
Due to my recent Zigbee issues, I am writing this note to you, those people who have Zigbee installations. I am writing to you to inform you of an issue that I encountered, how I diagnosed the issue, and how to resolve the issue.
I have personally found that a number of Zigbee repeater devices do not respond (i.e. they drop off the mesh) when the Zigbee power level or the Zigbee channel is changed. I'm sure that there are battery powered sensors that drop off as well, but those devices are picked up by the Device Activity Check.
After changing the Zigbee power level, or the channel, and waiting at least 24 hours for the Zigbee devices to update themselves, I suggest running the Zigbee Map app available in the Hubitat Package Manager. Any device which shows up in a magenta colour (device interrogation failed), should be further investigated. (Thank you @dandanache ).
Repeating devices are critically important because they forward the Zigbee message in a mesh network.
I have found that the following two devices do not update themselves to changes in power level and channel:
- Ikea Repeaters
- Zigbbe outlets from GE/Jasco (Model 43102)
In order to get these devices back online they must be reset and repaired to the Zigbee mesh.
You can tell that Ikea Repeaters have falled off the mesh by:
1.in one window : opening the settings->Zigbee details-> zigbee logging
2. in another window : open the ikea repeater in question, and click on the Get Link Quality, Get Route Table buttons
3. If nothing shows up in the first window, the device has fallen off the mesh, and must be repaired to the mesh
You can tell that the Jasco outlet has fallen off the mesh by:
- go into the device settings screen
- if the device does not respond (by changing its state) from off to on (or vice versa)
- the device has fallen off the mesh, and must be repaired
I would like to make an addendum to my note.
In my particular case, I have a large number of devices that are "meshed" to another Hub. By checking in the list of Devices, if you find a large number of meshed devices that are "OFFLINE", then you have to make a number of changes. I have found that in order for Hub Mesh to work properly:
- Both Hubs should have the same "Ethernet Speed". (Settings ->Network).
- Both Hubs should have a Static IP setup. (Settings -> Network).
