I have probably around a hundred Zigbee devices, and every time I run Zigbee Discovery (to add a new one or to reset and reconnect an unresponsive one), the hub "finds and reconnects" a bunch of existing devices (anything between a couple and a dozen). Some of them are the same, being "reconnected" every time; others I only see "reconnecting" very rarely.
Any ideas why it happens and what it means in terms of the network/the devices?
Sounds like some things disconnected and went into automatic pairing mode. Strange indeed. What channel are you on?

Switch it to 25... You'll have less problems with disconnects. 20 has been very problematic lately.

Thanks! I switched to 25; let's see if it helps.

That would be my guess as well.
What brand or model devices are these? The same ones every time or different ones? Do you notice they aren't working, or just that re-pairing thing?

All different. Mostly Iris contact and motion, but that's because that's most of my sensors. But also some others. I can't single out a brand.
I have some repeating offenders, but generally almost all of them make the list occasionally.
Most of them don't work before reconnecting, but some perfectly operational ones can make the list as well.
So it is always sensors and battery powered devices, and not powered devices?
I wonder if you need more or better repeaters? Is is possible a powered device or repeater is failing?

You may or may not have to re add some devices that don't like the channel change. I would recommend installing Device Activity Check from HPM. Good way to keep track of any devices that fall off the mesh. Oh an the more repeaters the better!
I highly doubt that. I fired up the network graph and will let it run for a couple of hours and will post it here, but I have A LOT of repeters.
Yup, some of them didn't like the change.
Using it already
That's how I know to run the "re-discovery".
Well once you get everything re paired see how it behaves on the new channel. Chances are it's going to be more stable.

Here's the latest graph after switching to 25. No new "reconnected" messages. The 3 devices it can't see I'll probably need to reset and reconnect manually. So far so good, thank y'all for help!

3 weeks update: no new reconnections!
@rlithgow1 I am going to mark the channel 25 as the solution, thank you again!
It's amazing what a difference a different channel makes and it's amazing 25 is not the default.
