Zigbee died

updated today and few hours later every zigbee device stopped working. Has anyone elses ever had a zigbee brain fart?

I saw this when my hub was on the way to a lockup. Zigbee radio just disabled itself. Had to reboot to get it back but when i did everything was fine.

I have seen that before as well ages ago when i had some problem apps and drivers but my hub hasn't had a slow down for 3-4 months. This is different the zigbee is still on line but its kicked off what i thought was 100% of the devices but i now know it was about 90%. The only things that were still working is my EXBEE and my 4 philips hue lamps hue lamps are probably the newest of the zigbee stuff about 7 weeks old. rest of the stuff osram lamps, ST fobs and osram buttons were connected last year all no longer work. I reset 2 of them and they are back up and working!

My Zigbee died the other day too. Reboot sorted it, but I don't know why it happened. I read that the Zigbee radio is the first thing to drop when the hub is struggling but I wasn't aware that mine was.

It's been ok since.

Your hue stuff is on your HE network? They are terrible repeaters. If other devices were trying to repeat through them it is quite possible to lose all of your other devices.

yeah again this is what i thought it was but not the case for me. I tried reboot, then shut down for 15 mins, doe restore and still nothing. I just tried a full soft reset which i have never done before but no dice.

yes and i know but that's the only devices on the network so they only repeat themselves which is fine. apart from the zigbee buttons but as they are also osram i have never had a issue.

That would just make things worse, not better. They would try and get a new route to the controller and that could be through the Hue, which, as noted, are terrible repeaters.

Then what devices did you lose? If it's only your hue and you said those were connected, what devices did you lose?

Osram lamps and osram buttons and ST fob but I don't use that currently and its sat so close to the hub it uses that.

Not necessarily. Battery operating devices especially will go through a repeater before going directly to the hub. I have mapped my network and a Sengled bulb that is 4 feet from hub goes through a router which is 10 feet from my hub.

I would be interested to see if you have the same problem without the hue connected.

I guest that as well due to them losing their hub but as A they seem to have done that anyway and B I have previously seen a suggestion to shutdown the hub got it working again (Not for zigbee routing issues )

Shutting down for 15 minutes can put zigbee devices into "lost" mode where they will try and rediscover a route to the hub. So devices that were previously paired directly to the hub (because no repeater was available) might then try and go through one of the hue as a repeater. That's why I say it can make things worse. Devices might try and take a worse path not knowing it's worse, expecting it to work better.

agree but as its battery powered it's either going to work or not and as im not using it, it's not going to do the mess any harm only its own reporting.

what do you mean? open to trying anything at the moment as ideally i don't want to reset everything just in case there is a bug to be found for others. I have had lamps drop off before again ages ago and not long after that one of them failed (hence why i now have hue there). But never had this on mass before

Huh? I have no idea what you mean.

Remove the Hue from your hub and then rediscover your devices. The others should come right back.

I know, that's why i was reluctant to try it but as i said they A had already seemed to have lost their routes so not going to get worse than nothing working and B there was a mention on the forum of a downpower of the hub for a small period allowing the hub to reboot fully.

A zigbee ST fob isn't a repeater so it not going to cause a issue to anything but itself, if the lamps are bad repeaters for them all that would happen is they wouldn't work and as i'm not currently using it doesn't bother me. But I have never had a issue with it anyway so all mute in that case.

I will give it a go  worth a try

Iโ€™ve had exactly this issue a few times.

what fixed it? @bobbyD is involved now so waiting on him to tell me what to try.

How do you know they lost their routes?

Just time for me. And it was the first time ever Iโ€™d seen Xiaomi devices reconnect themselves.

This time Iโ€™ve had 4 that just havenโ€™t repaired though.
